1State the problem. Paraphrase the key words in the question.
2Clearly state your opinion.

1There is an old adage saying “Money talks” and it is no revelation that money matters. Indeed, industrialization has engendered a culture of consumerism accentuating the role of money in our lives more than before. 2However, whether money is commensurate to happiness is a bone of contention I vehemently believe that although the importance of money is unmistakable, it can never buy happiness.

1Elaborate on the first reason.

2 Use facts, examples or statistics to support this.

3Wrap up your argument.

1Firstly, jackpot winners’ resumes can be exemplary to discuss this point. Skimming a journal a couple of years ago, I came across an interesting headline: Winning a jackpot or using a wheelchair. I just got more curious to learn about it more and no sooner had I been halfway through the article than I realized the real meaning of the headline. 2Statistically speaking, roughly 85% of jackpot winners had ended up in decadence. Some ended up in drugs, some had terrible accidents in cutting-edge cars just to leave them paralyzed or amputated, and yet some others experienced long periods of depression bouts because of idleness and a feeling of uselessness. 3Had money brought them happiness, they would not have suffered catastrophic aftermaths.

1 Move to the second reason.
2 Develop and justify your reason.

1 More importantly, although media do their utmost to sell people the idea that happiness is at the mercy of money, real-life situations show that money is an external factor while happiness is an internal one. 2 Certainly, money can somehow pave the way for temporary happiness yet it can no longer perpetuate happiness. In fact, as long as basic needs are satisfied, humans look for ulterior motives that cannot be consummated by money.

1Conclude the essay.
2 Use a clincher

1In sum, although money can meet some materialistic needs, our lofty aspirations should be tended through more spiritual factors. 2As they say, money can buy a house but not a home. Likewise, money can buy lots of material possessions but not happiness.
