How to Apply to Shenzhen MSU-BIT University: The '631' Comprehensive Evaluation and the Difference Between Dual and Single Enrollment
Undergraduate admissions at Shenzhen MSU-BIT University are primarily based on the '631' Comprehensive Evaluation: 60% Gaokao score, 30% university test, and 10% high school academic proficiency test. Graduates of dual-enrollment programs receive degrees from both Lomonosov Moscow State University and Shenzhen MSU-BIT University. This article outlines the rules and timeline based on the 2026 admissions brochure; the 2027 brochure has not yet been released.
Shenzhen MSU-BIT University (SMBU), jointly established by the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government, Beijing Institute of Technology, and Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), is a Sino-foreign cooperative university with independent legal status and public funding. Its undergraduate admissions differ from regular universities: it primarily uses a Comprehensive Evaluation admission model based on Gaokao scores, requiring early registration and participation in the university's entrance test. Below, we outline the key rules based on the university's 2026 Undergraduate Comprehensive Evaluation Admissions Brochure. As of October 4, 2026, the 2027 brochure has not yet been released; the final rules will be subject to the new brochure.
How the "631" Score is Calculated
The Comprehensive Evaluation score consists of three parts. Candidates are ranked by their total score and admitted based on merit:
| Component | Proportion |
|---|---|
| Gaokao Score | 60% |
| University Test Score | 30% |
| High School Academic Proficiency Test Score | 10% |
Therefore, the Gaokao remains the largest component, but the university test accounts for 30%, which is significant. In 2026, the university also specifically released an exam syllabus for the mathematics section of the university test; you can refer to previously released syllabus documents when preparing.
Differences Between Dual and Single Student Registration
This is the most important point for parents to clarify. The 2026 brochure divides majors into two categories:
| Comparison Item | Dual Registration Majors | Single Registration Majors |
|---|---|---|
| Student Registration | Registered at both MSU and SMBU | Registered only at SMBU |
| Graduation Certificate | Those who meet MSU's graduation requirements will receive an MSU graduation certificate (including a bachelor's degree); an SMBU graduation certificate and degree certificate will also be issued simultaneously | SMBU graduation certificate and degree certificate |
| Primary Language of Instruction | Russian (the English-taught track of Biological Sciences is in English) | International Economics and Trade, and FinTech are primarily in English; others are in Chinese and English |
The dual registration majors in the 2026 brochure include: Economics, Russian, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Information and Computational Science, Fundamental Sciences of Mathematics and Physics (with two tracks: Fundamental Mathematics and Fundamental Physics), Chemistry, Natural Geography and Resource Environment, Biological Sciences (Russian-taught and English-taught tracks), Materials Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence (plan pending at the time of the brochure release; a separate notice will be issued in April to open Comprehensive Evaluation registration), and Management Science.
The single registration majors include: FinTech, International Economics and Trade, Intelligent Sensing Engineering, and Electronic and Computer Engineering.
Simply put: if you want an MSU diploma, choose a dual registration major and be prepared to take professional courses in Russian. If you do not plan to learn Russian, focus on single registration majors and the English-taught track of Biological Sciences.
Subject selection requirements and the provinces where each major recruits vary by province. The brochure contains detailed tables, but the final reference is the admissions major catalog published by each provincial admissions office.
Application Requirements
In addition to being a high school graduate taking the Gaokao in the current year, the 2026 brochure also requires:
- Passing grades in all subjects of the High School Academic Proficiency Test; for subjects graded by levels, all must reach Level C or above. For candidates from Zhejiang, the Comprehensive Quality Evaluation must reach Level B or above.
- Estimated Gaokao score must reach or exceed the Minimum Control Score for Special Type Admissions published by the candidate's home province.

Candidates who qualify for the test must download the "Entrance Examination Application Form" from the registration system within the specified time, sign it personally, and send it back. They must also pay the Assessment and Review Fee online. The 2026 standard is 300 RMB per person, which is non-refundable after payment. Failure to return the form or pay the fee on time will be considered a waiver of the test qualification.
Materials to be uploaded for registration include: a recent bareheaded ID photo, front and back of the ID card, a high school transcript filled out according to the university's template and stamped by the high school (including all final exam scores, Academic Proficiency Test scores, and the most recent 2 to 3 unified exam scores), as well as other materials that demonstrate comprehensive qualities (optional).
University Scale
According to Shenzhen News, SMBU held its 2026 opening ceremony on September 13, with over 1,500 incoming freshmen (including undergraduates and graduate students) enrolling for the class of 2026.
Advice for the Class of 2027
- Start watching for the brochure in early 2027. The 2026 brochure was released in mid-February, with registration closing in late May. The specific schedule for 2027 will be subject to the new brochure; it is recommended to follow the university's undergraduate admissions website from the beginning of the year.
- Decide on the registration type first, then the major. Dual registration majors are primarily taught in Russian, so you need to assess your child's willingness and ability to learn Russian.
- Verify the majors and subject requirements for your province. Different provinces have different majors available, and some majors only recruit candidates from the physics or history tracks.
- Do not fail the Academic Proficiency Test. This test is not only a registration threshold but also accounts for 10% of the comprehensive score.
- Leave time to prepare for the university test. The university test accounts for 30%; arrange your review based on the subject exam syllabus released by the university.
