UK Undergraduate 2027 Admissions Timeline: Oxford, Cambridge, and Medicine applications due October 15, 2026; Personal Statement consists of three questions.
UCAS 2027 Admissions: Oxford, Cambridge, and most Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary courses due October 15, 2026; most other courses due January 13, 2027; up to 5 choices. Starting with the 2026 intake, the Personal Statement changes to three questions totaling 4,000 characters.
Undergraduate applications in the UK are all processed through UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service). The UCAS website lists the application timeline for 2027 entry: the application system opens on May 12, 2026, and full applications can be submitted from September 1 (a reference letter is required first). Full applications (including personal information and reference letters) submitted before the deadline are guaranteed to be considered.
Key Deadlines and Choice Limits
- Oxford, Cambridge, and Medicine: For the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, and most Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary Science courses, the equal consideration deadline is October 15, 2026, at 18:00 (UK time).
- Other Undergraduate Courses: The equal consideration deadline for most other undergraduate courses is January 13, 2027, at 18:00 (UK time).
- Number of Choices: Each student can apply to a maximum of 5 choices.
- Internal School Deadlines: If applying through your school, the internal deadline will be earlier. Please confirm with your school well in advance.
- Subsequent Deadlines: Extra opens on February 25, 2027 (for those who have used all 5 choices and received no offers, allowing one additional choice); applications submitted after June 30 automatically enter Clearing; the final deadline for 2027 entry is September 23, 2027. Many universities accept applications from international students at later dates.
Plan ahead. Students applying for courses with an October 15 deadline should pay special attention: these courses are highly competitive, and late applications are rarely considered.
Changes to the Personal Statement Format
Starting from 2026 entry, the personal statement changes from a single long essay to answering three separate questions. The total character limit remains 4,000 characters (including spaces), with a minimum of 350 characters required for each question.
- Question 1: Why do you want to study this course or subject?
- Question 2: How has your education and learning experience prepared you for this course?
- Question 3: What have you done outside of education to prepare, and why are these experiences useful?
When writing, avoid repeating information. There is no need to list your grades in detail, as admissions officers will see them in other parts of your application. Admissions officers will still read the three answers as a whole, and the 4,000 characters can be freely distributed among the three questions.
