HKU 2027 Mainland Undergraduate Admissions Now Open: Independent Application, Deadline June 28; First Round of Multiple Excellence Admission Scheme Deadline December 31

2026-10-11 · Admissions news

HKU 2027 Mainland Undergraduate Admission Scheme is now open for online applications. It operates independently from the national unified admission system, with a deadline of June 28, 2027, and an application fee of HKD 780. The first round of the Multiple Excellence Admission Scheme closes on December 31, 2026; strong interview performance prior to the Gaokao may result in bonus points or conditional offers.

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has opened online applications for its 2027 Mainland Undergraduate Admissions Program on October 6, 2026, targeting students taking the 2027 Gaokao and the Joint Examination for Students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. HKU's mainland admissions do not go through the national unified enrollment system for mainland universities and have an independent application process. Applying to HKU does not affect participation in the national unified enrollment, and students can simultaneously apply for other mainland university programs such as the Strong Base Plan.

There is no quota limit for any province or municipality, and admissions are based on merit. All undergraduate majors are open to mainland students without restrictions on arts or science tracks. For students from provinces with the new Gaokao system, there are no subject requirements for any major.

Application and Admissions Schedule

  • Application Period: The online application system opens on October 6, 2026, and closes on June 28, 2027. Applicants must first complete the online application form and pay the application fee. After the Gaokao results are released, log in to the system again to upload the scores.
  • Application Fee: The application fee is HKD 780, payable online via credit card such as MasterCard, VISA, or UnionPay. The fee is non-refundable once paid.
  • Admissions Criteria: Priority is given to the total Gaokao score and English score, interview performance (if shortlisted), and overall academic and non-academic qualities.
  • Admissions Release: Admission offers will be issued between late June and July 7, 2027. Once an offer is accepted, the student will no longer participate in the mainland college admission process.

Multi-Disciplinary Excellence Admission Scheme

After completing the application for the undergraduate admissions program, students can continue to apply for the Multi-Disciplinary Excellence Admission Scheme to participate in early interviews and receive admissions benefits.

  • Schedule: The first round of applications closes on December 31, 2026. Interviews (online) will be conducted in batches starting from January to February 2027. The final application deadline is March 22, 2027, and all results will be released by May 2027.
  • Eligibility: Open to students with outstanding academic records, or those with competition awards/subject specialties, extensive extracurricular activities, exceptional leadership skills, or talents in arts or sports (meeting any one criterion is sufficient). To apply, students must first obtain the application number for the Mainland Undergraduate Admissions Program, then complete and upload the "Personal Information Declaration Form for the Multi-Disciplinary Excellence Admission Scheme," which must be verified and stamped by their high school.
  • Admissions Benefits: Outstanding performers may receive bonus points. Exceptionally outstanding candidates may receive a Conditional Offer before the Gaokao.
  • Important Notes: Failure to attend any round of interviews before the Gaokao will be considered an automatic waiver of eligibility, and no benefits will be granted.

Advice for Parents and Students

  • Apply Early: Applications are now open. For those applying to the Multi-Disciplinary Excellence Admission Scheme, the declaration form requires a school stamp, so it is recommended to have it ready before the first round deadline on December 31, 2026.
  • Stick to Official Channels: HKU states that it has not authorized any agencies to recruit on its behalf, nor are there any "internal referral" channels recommended by professors. Applications must be submitted directly to HKU. Any falsification of academic credentials, once verified, will result in expulsion.
  • Pay Attention to Details: For major introductions and joint undergraduate programs, please visit the HKU Admissions website. For the 2027 academic year, the Bachelor of Dental Surgery program will admit both local and non-local students. The latest arrangements are subject to the official announcements on the HKU website.
