The University of Sydney 2027 International Admissions Guide lists Gaokao requirements for undergraduate majors as a percentage of the provincial maximum score: Arts 70%, Science and Engineering 75%, Computer Science 80%, Business 85%. Medicine double degrees do not accept Gaokao scores. Applications for the February semester close on December 1 of the previous year.
The University of Sydney recognizes the Chinese Gaokao as a valid qualification for undergraduate admission and lists the Gaokao requirements for each undergraduate program in the 2027 Admission Guide for International Students.
How Gaokao Scores Are Calculated
Gaokao requirements are expressed as a percentage of the maximum Gaokao score in your province: the maximum score is 750 in most provinces, with exceptions such as 660 in Shanghai and 940 in Hainan. For example, for a test-taker in Beijing, 70% means 525 out of 750.

Reminders for Chinese Students
- The scores in the guide are for reference only. Meeting them does not guarantee admission; you must also meet all other requirements, including English proficiency and prerequisite courses. Conversion scores for non-Australian qualifications may also be adjusted as conversion rules change.
- The Gaokao is held in June, which is after the May 29 deadline for the August semester. Based on this timeline, the earliest intake you can enter with 2027 Gaokao scores is the February 2028 semester (deadline: December 1, 2027). We recommend checking with the university admissions office to see if you can apply before your scores are released.
