ANU Gaokao Score Conversion Table: 525 for Business, Arts, and Science; 544 for Engineering and Computer Science; 660 for Law.

2026-10-12 · Admissions news

ANU has released the Gaokao score requirements corresponding to admission rankings for each major: in most provinces (out of 750), a ranking of 80 corresponds to 525, 85 to 544, 92 to 585, and 97 to 660; Shanghai and Hainan have separate conversion tables. In the 2027 handbook, the ranking requirement is 80 for Bachelor of Business, Economics, Arts, and Science; 85 for Engineering and Advanced Computer Science; 92 for Actuarial Studies; and 97 for Law.

The Australian National University (ANU) admissions website has published a conversion table between the Chinese Gaokao and undergraduate selection ranks. First, find the required selection rank for your major in the program handbook, then locate the corresponding Gaokao score for your province in the table.

Gaokao Scores Corresponding to Selection Ranks

  • Rank 80: 525 for other provinces; 462 for Shanghai; 630 for Hainan.
  • Rank 85: 544 for other provinces; 479 for Shanghai; 653 for Hainan.
  • Rank 90: 570 for other provinces; 502 for Shanghai; 684 for Hainan.
  • Rank 92: 585 for other provinces; 515 for Shanghai; 702 for Hainan.

"Other provinces" refers to provinces with a maximum score of 750. The conversion table applies to the Gaokao from 2017 onwards; starting in 2021, Jiangsu and Yunnan, which also have a maximum score of 750, are included under the "other provinces" column. For those who took the Gaokao in earlier years when the maximum score was 600 in Shanghai and 810 in Zhejiang, assessment will be based on the university's previous requirements.

Reminders for Chinese Students

  • The above are indicative scores. All applicants must also meet other academic or non-academic requirements and English language requirements for their chosen major; most programs admit on a competitive basis, so meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.
  • International applicants' academic qualifications will be converted to an equivalent selection rank at the time of application; to ensure a diverse student body, the university may adjust the ranking of applicants from different countries.
  • English proficiency can be demonstrated using IELTS (Academic), TOEFL iBT, Cambridge C1 Advanced, or PTE Academic. The specific score requirements follow the ANU English language policy and vary by program.
