The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) has announced its 2027 undergraduate admissions for mainland gaokao students: PolyU admits independently through its own application process, without affecting students' applications to mainland universities; students from all 31 mainland provinces and municipalities may apply, with no fixed provincial quotas.
Key dates
- September 23, 2026: Online applications open.
- February 11, 2027: Deadline for the 3D Admission Scheme early round and STARS.
- May 14, 2027: Deadline for the 3D Admission Scheme main round.
- June 13, 2027: Application deadline for gaokao students.
- Late June 2027: Enter your gaokao results in the online system by the set date; missing or incorrect results void the application and fees are not refunded.
- Late June to July 7, 2027: Offers sent by email and SMS; admitted students accept, pay the deposit and apply for a student visa. Applicants with no offer by mid-July can assume they were unsuccessful.
- August 30, 2027: The 2027/28 academic year begins.
Entry requirements
- Excellent results in the current year's gaokao, including a good English score.
- Some programmes require a portfolio (e.g., Design), additional documents (e.g., Applied Social Sciences) or an interview; check your programme's requirements before applying.
Two early selection schemes
- 3D Admission Scheme: For current Grade 12 students with excellent high school grades, mock exam results (school-level or above, or joint exams) and academic proficiency test results, assessed together with an interview. Submitting an application, paying the fee and entering the relevant results by the deadline enrolls you automatically. Those who pass the early-round interview receive preferential admission terms; those passing the main-round interview may receive bonus-point concessions.
- STARS (Special Talents Admission and Recognition Scheme): For current Grade 12 students with outstanding achievements in sports, culture and arts, leadership, community service or STEM. Declare your awards in the application system and opt in; those passing the interview receive preferential admission terms. You cannot change programme choices after joining, and awards must be verified and stamped by your school, which sends a principal's letter directly to PolyU.
Costs
- Tuition: HK$240,000 a year for government-funded full-time undergraduate programmes in 2027/28, paid in two instalments.
- Deposit: HK$20,000 on accepting an offer (plus HK$240 for telegraphic transfer), non-refundable and credited toward first-semester tuition.
Advice for applicants and families
- Students with competition awards, special talents or strong high school grades should apply before February 11 to compete for 3D early-round or STARS interviews and preferential offers.
- PolyU and CityU both close on June 13; you can apply to both without conflict.
