How to Apply to Psychology at the University of Saskatchewan: Direct Entry to Arts and Science, and Requirements and Timeline for Canadian and Chinese High School Students and Transfer Students

2026-10-17 · Application guides

At the University of Saskatchewan, psychology is offered by the College of Arts and Science, high school students can enter directly, and students choose between the B.A. and B.Sc. with an advisor after starting. The minimum admission average is 70% for high school students and 60% for transfer students, with rolling admission until seats fill. Based on USask’s official information for September 2027 entry, this guide covers requirements for BC and Chinese high school students, how averages are calculated, English scores, the May 1 deadline for international students and July 15 for Canadians, tuition, and the CAD $5,000 entrance scholarship for those who apply by December 1.

The University of Saskatchewan (USask) is in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Psychology is offered by the College of Arts and Science as a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.). USask says you can enter this program directly from high school, and you can also begin it off-campus. Here is what you need to know for September 2027 entry, based on USask’s official information, for students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver students and international students in Canada), students at high schools in China, and transfer students.

1. Choosing a degree

  • B.A.: three-year, four-year, honours and double honours. B.Sc.: four-year, honours and double honours. USask recommends consulting an Arts and Science academic advisor once you start to decide between the B.A. and B.Sc. and among three-year, four-year or honours degrees.
  • First year: both degrees include PSY 120 (Biological and Cognitive Bases of Psychology) and PSY 121 (Social, Clinical, Cultural and Developmental Bases of Psychology). The B.Sc. first year also includes biology, physics, chemistry and calculus.
  • Research areas: faculty work focuses on clinical psychology (such as dementia and pain management), social psychology (such as prejudice), culture and human development, and neuroscience. USask says the department received an “A” rating for both its undergraduate and graduate programs in its most recent program review.
  • Honours: designed for students heading to graduate or professional training, with a maximum of 30 students admitted each year on a competitive basis. For 2026, for example:
    • at least 60 credit units, including PSY 120, 121, 233, 234 and 235 plus 6 more credit units of senior PSY courses;
    • a cumulative weighted average of at least 70% and a major average of at least 80%;
    • applications by May 1.

2. Academic requirements: Canadian high schools

  • BC high school students:
    • Required class: Foundations of Math 12 or Pre-Calculus 12. B.A. or undecided students are encouraged to take Foundations of Math 12; B.Sc. students are encouraged to take Pre-Calculus 12.
    • Students can be admitted to the college with a math deficiency but should consult the college after admission on how to clear it.
    • Minimum admission average: 70%. Applications are considered until the deadline, with offers made on an ongoing basis until seats are filled.
  • How the average is calculated: five marks—one English, one math and three other approved subjects (at most two natural sciences, two social sciences or humanities, and one fine or performing art).
    • BC English includes English Studies 12 and English First Peoples 12; math includes Foundations of Math 12, Pre-Calculus 12 or Calculus 12.
    • For English 12, USask uses the in-class or diploma exam mark, whichever is higher.
  • Which marks are used:
    • applying from September to February 1: Grade 11 marks;
    • February 2 to June 30: marks up to the end of Grade 12 Term 1;
    • after June 30: Grade 12 marks only.
    Conditional offers based on Grade 11 or first-term Grade 12 marks are checked against final Grade 12 marks.
  • If your average is lower: you may be considered for the University of Saskatchewan Transition Entrance Program (USTEP) or for special (mature) admission.

3. Academic requirements: high schools in China

  • Minimum admission average: 70%. USask converts international marks to Canadian grading and uses the same English, math and three-subject formula.
  • USask currently does not list psychology prerequisites for China, nor a Gaokao requirement. Students aiming for the B.Sc. should build strong math, following the advice for BC students.
  • Earlier deadline: international students apply by May 1 for fall 2027, with documents by June 1 (see the timeline).
  • After admission: confirm your offer in the USask application portal before making payments or applying for a study permit. Using an agent is optional.

4. English requirements

  • Exemptions:
    • at least three years of full-time study in an approved English-medium secondary program, including Grades 10 to 12, with Grade 12 English completed (65% minimum for overseas schools offering a Canadian curriculum);
    • 2.5 years with at least 70% in Grade 12 English, or two years with at least 80%;
    • or one year of full-time degree study in English, or a two-year diploma from an English-medium Canadian institution.
  • Test scores (one sitting, valid for two years at the start of your first term):
    • IELTS Academic 6.5 with at least 6.0 in each band;
    • TOEFL iBT 4.5 with at least 4.0 in each section; scores on the former 0–120 scale (before January 21, 2026) remain acceptable for two years at 86 with 19 in each section; institution code 0980; the Home Edition is accepted;
    • Duolingo 120 with at least 100 in each area; PTE Academic 63 (59 in each skill); CAEL 70 (60 in each); Cambridge C1 Advanced 176.
  • Other ways: AP English 4 or higher, IB HL English A or English B 5 or higher, GCSE/IGCSE English at B or higher, among others.

5. Transfer students

  • Minimum admission average: 60% (for example, for BC university or college students), with the same Foundations of Math 12 or Pre-Calculus 12 requirement and rolling admission.
  • With fewer than 18 transferable credit units, your admission average is calculated as a high school applicant (Grade 12 marks only).
  • Transfer credit: evaluated as part of admission, with no preliminary evaluations. Each institution must send official transcripts directly. The Transfer Credit Office evaluates courses, then the college decides whether credit applies to your program; general credit may be granted where there is no exact equivalent, and failed courses are listed without credit.
