How to Apply to the Schulich BBA at York University: Direct Entry From High School, Grades and a Supplementary Application Weighted Equally, and Requirements and Timeline for Canadian, Chinese and Transfer Students
York University’s Schulich School of Business offers the BBA (OUAC code YBA) as a direct-entry program from high school, with an incoming class of about 500. Admission weighs grades and the Supplementary Application equally; the supplementary application, with a leadership profile, video interview and timed writing exercise, is due February 1, 2027. Ontario and BC applicants with averages in the low 90s or higher may be considered, and Chinese applicants need an A+/90% average. This guide covers prerequisites, English requirements, tuition, scholarships and the no-external-transfer rule.
York University is in Toronto. Its Schulich School of Business offers the four-year Honours Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), OUAC code YBA, at the Keele Campus, with fall first-year entry only. The BBA is a direct-entry program, so you start core business courses in your first term. Here is what you need to know for fall 2027 entry, based on York and Schulich’s official information, for students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver, and international students at Canadian schools), students at high schools in China, and transfer students.
1. The program
- Curriculum: core courses in accounting, economics, marketing, finance, organizational behaviour, data analysis and operations, plus electives outside Schulich; graduation requires 120 credits with a cumulative GPA of at least 5.00 (on a 9-point scale).
- Specializations: students entering Year 3 can choose up to two of eleven areas, or none, such as accounting, business economics and policy, entrepreneurial and family business studies, finance, global business, marketing, and operations and supply chain management; Schulich notes specializations depend on student demand.
- Exchange: Schulich’s FAQ lists 66 partner schools in 32 countries, with 150–200 students going each year, in the winter of Year 3 or either term of Year 4.
- Internships: Schulich has no co-op; instead it offers domestic and international summer internships, some for credit, coordinated by its Centre for Career Design.
- Outcomes (Schulich’s figures): 88% hired within nine months of graduation, with average total compensation of $77,000.
- iBBA: Schulich previously offered an International BBA. York’s Future Students site currently lists only the BBA (YBA) for Schulich, and Schulich’s iBBA page redirects to the BBA page; the sites do not say whether the iBBA admits separately for 2027, so ask admissions@schulich.yorku.ca.
2. How admission works: grades and the supplementary application count equally
- Two equally weighted criteria: academic performance and the Schulich Supplementary Application. Schulich’s FAQ says strong grades will not make up for a weak supplementary application, and vice versa.
- Competition: thousands of applications each year for an incoming class of about 500.
- Supplementary Application (mandatory):
- a Leadership Profile, video interviews and a timed writing exercise, completed on Kira Talent;
- the Leadership Profile asks for a contact who can confirm your activity, and no reference letters are needed; you must upload it before the video and writing parts, and cannot replace it afterward;
- from the fall 2027 cycle there is a $50 fee;
- after you apply to the BBA through OUAC you receive an email invitation: by the end of October 16, 2026 if you applied by October 10, otherwise within up to 10 business days. You need your York Student ID Number, which arrives 7–10 business days after your OUAC application.
3. Academic requirements: students at Canadian high schools
- Ontario: ENG4U (70%+), MHF4U (70%+), MCV4U or MDM4U (MCV4U recommended) and three more 4U/4M courses (no more than two 4M). Schulich says competitive applicants should aim for a Grade 12 average in the high 80s to low 90s, and past minimum cut-offs have ranged from 91.5% to 92%.
- British Columbia:
- English 12 or English 12 First Peoples (70%+);
- Principles of Math 12, Foundational Math 12 or Pre-calculus 12 (70%+);
- Calculus 12;
- two more Grade 12 academic subjects.
- Averages: BC and other provinces: averages in the low 90s or higher may be considered, and you must keep a final average of 88% to hold your offer.
- How to apply: OUAC; students outside Ontario use the 105 form.
4. Academic requirements: students at high schools in China
- Credential: the Senior Secondary School Graduation Certificate; York does not mention the Gaokao.
- Prerequisite: Grade 12 math at 75% or higher.
- Average: completion of Senior 3 with a minimum overall average of A+/90% on all academic courses.
- International curricula: IB Diploma with 36+ points (Math AA or AI HL at 5+); GCE A-Levels averaging A (math B or higher). IB HL 5+ and A-Level C+ may earn transfer credit.
5. English requirements
- Minimums listed in Schulich’s FAQ: TOEFL 94 (pre-2026 format) or 5 for tests on or after January 21, 2026; IELTS 7.0; PTE Academic 67; Duolingo 130.
- Common waivers: four years of secondary school in Canada in English or French, or four years at a completely English-medium secondary school (an English-medium letter may be needed).
6. Timeline (fall 2027 entry)
- Late September 2026: OUAC applications open.
- Early Consideration (optional): OUAC application by November 6, 2026 and Supplementary Application by November 23, 2026; offers may come between December 2026 and January 2027. Skipping it is no disadvantage; it changes only when you are reviewed, not how.
- January 15, 2027: OUAC deadline; Schulich accepts no BBA applications after it.
- February 1, 2027: Supplementary Application deadline for all applicants.
- March to end of May: regular offers issued on a rolling basis.
- York closes from December 21, 2026 to January 11, 2027, so invitations for applications made then are delayed.
7. Transfer students
- No external transfers: because of small class sizes and program structure, Schulich does not consider external transfer students under any circumstances, nor mature students, nor current York students who previously studied elsewhere. Schulich suggests other York business programs such as the BCom in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies.
- Internal Delayed Entry: York students who came directly from high school and completed the required Year 1 prerequisites may be considered case by case for Year 2 of the BBA. Schulich calls this extremely competitive, with 0–8 successful students a year; the fall 2027 deadline is March 3, 2027.
8. Tuition and scholarships
- Tuition (2026–27 estimates, full time): business programs cost about CAD $8,000–11,000 for domestic students and about $40,000–44,000 for international students, plus supplementary fees of about $40–50 per credit. See York’s Course and Program Fees page for exact amounts.
- Automatic international entrance scholarships (by final admission average, no application; York currently lists the fall 2026 program, with 2027 details to follow):
- 90%+: $15,000 in Year 1 and $7,500 a year after, up to $37,500;
- 80–89.9%: $10,000 in Year 1 and $5,000 a year after, up to $25,000;
- 75–79.9%: a one-time $5,000.
- President’s International Scholarship of Excellence: for international high school applicants with academic excellence, volunteer work and leadership, worth $180,000 over four years; student applications are due January 27, 2027 and nominations February 4. It cannot be combined with the entrance scholarships.
