How to Apply to the John Molson BComm at Concordia University: Apply Directly to a Business Major, and Requirements and Timeline for Canadian, Chinese and Transfer Students
At Concordia University’s John Molson School of Business, you apply directly to a Bachelor of Commerce major such as finance, accountancy, marketing or business analytics. High school applicants need at least a B overall and a B in math, with no SAT or ACT required. English minimums are IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 70, and international tuition was CAD $1,400 per credit in fall 2026. Based on Concordia’s official information, this guide covers BC and Chinese course requirements, the March 1 deadline (February 1 recommended for international applicants), co-op, tuition, scholarships and transfer requirements.
Concordia University is in Montreal, Quebec. Business is taught by the John Molson School of Business (JMSB), whose undergraduate degree is the Bachelor of Commerce (BComm), offered at the downtown Sir George Williams campus; the school is AACSB and EQUIS accredited. You apply directly to a business major. Here is what you need to know for fall 2027 entry, based on Concordia’s official information, for students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver, and international students at Canadian schools), students at high schools in China, and transfer students.
1. Program and majors
- Majors: accountancy, business analytics, business technology management, economics (JMSB), finance, human resource management, international business, management, marketing, and supply chain operations management. The major pages list the same cut-offs and prerequisites.
- Length: three or four years of full-time study (90–120 credits), depending on your background. In finance, for example: 48 credits of core business courses, 24 credits in the major and 18 credits of electives (which may include a 12-credit minor). Qualified students can take an honours option (finance honours adds a 6-credit research course).
- Co-op: available, with three paid work terms of 12–16 weeks each.
- Experiential programs: top students can join student-run portfolio programs such as the Kenneth Woods Portfolio Management Program ($6.4 million), the Van Berkom Investment Management Program and the Manulife Sustainable Investing Practicum ($2 million virtual fund), plus national and international case competitions.
2. Academic requirements: students at Canadian high schools
- Minimum: B overall and B in math, with one math from Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Algebra II, College Algebra or equivalent. Concordia says cut-offs are indicators that may change with the applicant pool, and meeting them does not guarantee admission.
- British Columbia: a high school diploma with at least four approved Grade 12 academic subjects, including English 12, English Studies 12 or English 12 First Peoples; for the BComm, one of Foundations of Math 12, Principles of Math 12, Pre-Calculus 12 or Calculus 12. On Concordia’s conversion table, a B in BC is 77–80%.
- Quebec CEGEP: 26 overall (R score) and an average of 26 from Calculus 1 and Linear Algebra, with at least one of the two completed.
- No SAT or ACT required; AP is not required but may earn advanced standing.
3. Academic requirements: students at high schools in China and international curricula
- Credential: Concordia lists the Senior Middle School Graduation Certificate (普通高中毕业证书) for China and does not mention the Gaokao; expect equivalent standards to a B overall and a B in math.
- IB Diploma: 29 overall, with math at 4 HL or 5 SL (AA or AI).
- British system: at least two A-Levels at CC with math at C, or at least four AS-Levels with equivalent results; students without A-Level math may be admissible on AS or IGCSE results.
4. English requirements
- TOEFL iBT (including Home Edition) 70; for tests from January 2026 on the new scale, 4.0 with no section below 3.5; MyBest accepted.
- IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band below 5.5; One Skill Retake and IELTS Online accepted.
- Duolingo 105 with no subscore below 90; CAEL 50; C1 Advanced 175; PTE Academic 50 (46 in speaking and writing).
- Results must be under two years old. The BComm is not on the list of programs requiring higher scores. You may take a placement test after admission to decide on ESL courses.
5. Timeline
- Fall 2027: deadline March 1; U.S. and international applicants should apply no later than February 1 for immigration processing, and earlier is strongly recommended.
- Winter entry (January): deadline November 1; international applicants by August 1.
- Concordia may close admission to a program at any time after the deadline.
6. Transfer students
- External transfers: B- overall and B- in math, with courses in calculus and linear algebra, and Concordia’s general minimums.
- Internal transfers: 2.7 overall and 2.7 in math, with ECON 201, ECON 203, MATH 208 and MATH 209 completed (or exempted).
- See Concordia’s transfer page for credit assessment.
7. Tuition and scholarships
- International tuition (fall 2026): JMSB programs cost CAD $1,400 per credit, about $42,000 for 30 credits a year, plus fees.
- Canadians who are not Quebec residents (new since fall 2024): $432.85 per credit, including the Quebec government’s forfaitaire.
- Undergraduate Excellence Award: a guaranteed $4,000, automatic with no application, for Canadian citizens and permanent residents finishing Grade 12, CEGEP, IB or the French Baccalaureate in Canada.
