How to Apply to Business at LSE: BSc Management and Accounting and Finance, with A-Level/IB, Gaokao-plus-AST, Canadian High School and Transfer Requirements and Timeline

2026-10-18 · Application guides

LSE’s main business-related undergraduate degrees are the BSc Management (UCAS N200) and the BSc Accounting and Finance (NN34), both three years, with a competitive option to spend a year abroad between the second and third years. Management asks for AAA at A-level including an A in Mathematics, or IB 38 with 766 at Higher Level including Mathematics. Chinese students need the Gaokao plus AST scores, as the senior high school diploma alone is not accepted; BC students need a 93% average in five grade 12 academic courses and at least 93% in Calculus 12. The deadline is 13 January 2027, and overseas tuition for Management is £37,500 a year.

At the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), the main business-related undergraduate degree is the BSc Management from the Department of Management, a three-year full-time programme with UCAS code N200. The Department of Accounting also offers the BSc Accounting and Finance (NN34). Here is what you need to know for 2027/28 entry, based on LSE’s official information, for students at high schools in China (including A-level/IB/AP students at international schools), students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver), and current university students.

1. The programmes

  • BSc Management: LSE describes a strong quantitative focus and theoretical approach, studying how organisations work through economics, statistics, mathematics and accounting, applied to real-world business. You take 12 units over three years plus LSE100.
  • Year 1: quantitative courses taught mostly by the Economics, Mathematics, Statistics and Accounting departments (finance, micro- and macroeconomics, statistics, mathematics or calculus and linear algebra, and a choice of accounting course), plus Operations Management and Organisational Behaviour and Leadership.
  • Year 2: Managerial Economics and Econometrics, options from marketing, information systems and human resource management, and an approved management-related course.
  • Year 3: Strategy plus management-related courses worth three units.
  • Year abroad: you can apply for an exchange year between the second and third years at partners in the US, Italy, Switzerland, France or Hong Kong; places are limited and competitive.
  • Applications: LSE reports 2,407 applications and an intake of 163 for Management in 2025, a ratio of about 15:1.
  • BSc Accounting and Finance: three years, accredited by ACCA, CIMA and ICAEW for exemptions from some professional examinations, depending on your options. LSE reports 2,849 applications and an intake of 156 in 2025.

2. Entry requirements

  • Management, A-level: AAA including an A in Mathematics; contextual offer AAB with an A in Mathematics.
  • Management, IB: 38 points with 766 at Higher Level including Mathematics; contextual offer 37 with 666.
  • Accounting and Finance: A-level A*AA with an A in Mathematics (contextual AAA); IB 39 points, 766 at Higher Level including 6 in HL Mathematics (contextual 38 with 666).
  • Subject combinations: both programmes require A-level Mathematics or equivalent. LSE expects at least two traditional academic subjects, and the Management page says natural sciences, English, Economics and the humanities are preferred over Business Studies or Accounting. Further Mathematics helps but is not essential.
  • GCSE (UK students): at least B (6) in English Language and Mathematics, with your overall GCSE profile considered.
  • AP: LSE accepts at least five AP subjects taken over a maximum of three years.
  • Assessment: LSE considers predicted and achieved grades, subject combinations, the personal statement, the teacher’s reference and educational circumstances. The department looks for interest in a management career, good mathematical skills and quantitative ability.

3. Students at high schools in China

  • The senior high school diploma alone is not accepted as an entry qualification to LSE.
  • Gaokao route: complete the Gaokao and achieve competitive AST scores (A = 210, A* = 250); for programmes requiring A*/A in A-level Mathematics, 250 in AST Mathematics. Both Management and Accounting and Finance require Mathematics at A.
  • CEIS: high-calibre students in China can also apply with the Ambright Education Group through the China Excellence Identification Scheme.
  • International school students: apply with A-levels, the IB or AP as above.

4. Students at Canadian high schools (including BC)

  • British Columbia and Yukon: Management (AAA) needs an average of 93% in at least five grade 12 academic subjects; Accounting and Finance (A*AA) needs 95%. For programmes requiring A-level Mathematics, you need Calculus 12 at a minimum of 93% for A and 95% for A*.
  • Alberta and other provinces: also a five-course grade 12 average (93% at AAA), with Mathematics 31 for the maths requirement.
  • Canadian university students: GPA above 3.3, preferably 3.75 on a 4.0 scale, or at least B+ in relevant modules.

5. Transfer students

  • LSE lists one year of undergraduate study at another university as an accepted entry qualification; applicants with university results may need to take the Undergraduate Admissions Assessment (UGAA).
  • The entry requirements describe first-year entry; we found no information on second-year entry, so contact LSE Undergraduate Admissions first.

6. English requirements

  • IELTS Academic: 7.0 overall with 7.0 in each component, in one sitting.
  • TOEFL iBT: 100, with at least 27 in writing, 25 in reading and 24 in listening and speaking.
  • Others: PTE Academic (in person only) 70 overall and in each component; Cambridge C1/C2 185 overall and in each component.
  • You don’t need English results to apply; offer holders submit them by the July deadline. IELTS and TOEFL must be taken within two years of 1 September of your year of entry.

7. UCAS application and timeline (September 2027 entry)

  • From 1 September 2026: completed applications can be submitted to UCAS (a reference is required).
  • 13 January 2027 (18:00 UK time): the application deadline listed on LSE’s programme page, and UCAS’s equal consideration date for most undergraduate courses.
  • Personal statement: from 2026 entry, UCAS replaced the single statement with three questions: why you want to study the subject; how your studies have prepared you; and what you have done outside education. The total is 4,000 characters, with at least 350 per answer.
  • 27 September 2027: term starts at Houghton Street, London.

8. Fees and scholarships

  • Overseas tuition (2027/28 entry, per year): Management £37,500, Accounting and Finance £39,300, fixed for each year of full-time study.
  • Home students: £10,050 a year, which may rise with the government cap.
  • Support for overseas students: LSE offers bursaries and scholarships including the Access to Education Scholarships, funded by donations and varying each year in number, value and eligibility.
