2026-10-18 · Application guides

Leeds University Business School’s Business Management BA (UCAS code N200) takes three years, with an optional placement or study abroad year. It asks for A-Level AAA in any subjects with GCSE Maths and English at B/5, or IB 35 with 17 at Higher Level; the Gaokao is accepted at 75% to 85% depending on the programme. English requires IELTS 6.5 with 6.0 in each component. International tuition is £29,000 a year, fixed for the degree. The Business School does not take Year 2 or 3 entrants, and the international deadline is 30 June.

At the University of Leeds in northern England, business is taught by Leeds University Business School. This guide focuses on the Business Management BA (UCAS code N200). Here is what you need to know for September 2027 entry, based on Leeds’s official information, for students at high schools in China (Gaokao and international-curriculum students), students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver), and transfer students.

1. The programme

  • Business Management BA: three years full time. Year 1 covers management foundations, organisational behaviour, accounting and setting up a business; Year 2 covers marketing, managing people and operations, research methods and corporate social responsibility.
  • Pathways: most start in Year 2; you can take modules from up to two pathways each year and then continue, switch or return to business management options. Discovery modules from across the university are also available.
  • Placement and study abroad years: both optional, each adding 12 months. A completed year abroad adds “international” to the degree title. University-sourced placements are paid, with 100+ partner organisations.
  • Related degrees: the school also offers Business Management with Marketing, Business Management and Human Resources, International Business, Accounting and Finance, Marketing and others, each with its own requirements.

2. Academic requirements: students at high schools in China

  • A-Level: AAA in any subjects (excluding EPQ, General Studies and Critical Thinking), plus GCSE Maths B/5 and English Language B/5 (C/4 accepted with B/5 in English Literature).
  • IB: 35 points with 17 at Higher Level; Maths SL 5 or HL 4, and English A SL/HL 5, English B SL 7 or HL 6, unless met through another qualification.
  • Gaokao: Leeds accepts the Gaokao. Its China page gives typical requirements of 75% to 85% in the Gaokao depending on the programme, plus an 80% average (80% in relevant subjects) in senior high Years 1 and 2 and the graduation certificate. Some programmes also require A-Level Maths. Leeds does not list the exact figure for Business Management; ask lubsugadmissions@leeds.ac.uk.
  • Foundation: the University of Leeds International Foundation Year, or other foundation years, typically with 70%+ in a business-related foundation and an appropriate maths module (a numeracy module is not enough).
  • Selection: Leeds says the Business School receives many applications per place and cannot make offers to everyone; decisions consider predicted or achieved grades, breadth of qualifications, the personal statement, extracurricular and work experience, and context.

3. Academic requirements: students at Canadian high schools

  • From Leeds’s Canada page: five Grade 12 subjects (six in Ontario). Programmes asking AAA need an 80% overall average with subject-specific grades, where A* = 85%, A = 80% and B = 75%.
  • The diploma must be taught in person over three years; Ontario OSSDs have school restrictions.

4. English requirements

  • The course page asks for IELTS 6.5 overall with no component below 6.0.
  • For Canadian students, Leeds maps BC Communications 12 at 70% to IELTS 6.5 and 75% to 7.0; the university-wide undergraduate minimum is 65% in English 12 (about IELTS 6.0), but business asks for more, so follow the course page.

5. Transfer students

  • No advanced entry: the Business School states that it does not accept applications for Year 2 or Year 3; everyone must apply to first year, and university credit cannot replace the published Year 1 entry requirements.

6. Fees and scholarships

  • Tuition: £29,000 a year for international students, fixed for the degree; £10,050 for UK students in 2027/28. A placement or study abroad year has reduced fees.
  • Scholarships: see the Leeds scholarships directory for options and eligibility.

7. Timeline (September 2027 entry)

  • Apply through UCAS like UK students; check the UCAS website for the deadline.
  • The international deadline for Leeds University Business School courses is 30 June. Apply early to leave time for your visa.
