How to Apply to Business at the University of Sheffield: Three-Year Business Management and Accounting and Financial Management BAs, and Requirements and Timeline for Chinese and Canadian High School Students and Transfer Students

2026-10-18 · Application guides

At the University of Sheffield, the Management School’s Business Management BA (UCAS N200) and Accounting and Financial Management BA (N420) are three-year courses with an optional placement year or year abroad. The standard offer is AAB at A Level or 34 in the IB, plus GCSE Maths at 6/B; the Gaokao is accepted for direct entry, with AAB equal to 70% of total marks, and BC students need an 80% average in five Grade 12 subjects. Based on Sheffield’s official information for September 2027 entry, this guide covers requirements, English, fees, scholarships and transfer.

At the University of Sheffield, business is taught by Sheffield University Management School, which Sheffield says holds AMBA, EQUIS and AACSB accreditation. In the UK you apply directly to a course through UCAS. Using the Business Management BA and the Accounting and Financial Management BA as examples, here is what you need to know for September 2027 entry, based on Sheffield’s official information, for students at high schools in China (Gaokao, A Level and IB), students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver), and transfer students.

1. The courses

  • Business Management BA (UCAS code N200): three years, starting in September. Year one covers core management and business fundamentals; from year two you have more optional modules, with example pathways in leadership and management, HR, economics, marketing, accounting and finance, operations management and business analytics. A one-week group micro-internship over the Easter break has you respond to a brief from an external organisation. The course also gives exemptions from some CIMA exams.
  • Accounting and Financial Management BA (UCAS code N420): three years, accredited by ICAEW, ICAS, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA and CPA Australia for exemption from some professional exams.
  • Related courses: Sheffield also lists Business Management and Economics BA, Business Management and Modern Languages and Cultures BA, and Accounting and Financial Management and Economics BA; check each course page for its requirements.
  • Placement and year abroad: you can add a placement year between years two and three, making a four-year degree “with Placement Year”, or apply for a year abroad at one of more than 250 partner universities. For students starting in 2027, the placement year costs 20% of the full-time fee and the year abroad 15%.

2. Academic requirements: high schools in China

  • A Level: the standard offer for both courses is AAB, or ABB plus A in a social-science EPQ, or ABB plus A in Core Maths. Both also require GCSE Maths at 6/B.
  • IB: 34 points, or 33 with an A in a social-science extended essay.
  • Gaokao: Sheffield accepts the Gaokao for direct entry. For courses requiring AAB to ABB, you need at least 70% of the total marks (75% for AAA and above). Where a subject is required, an A equals 75% of that subject’s marks and a B equals 70%.
  • Senior High School Certificate only: you must first complete a recognised foundation programme. Sheffield lists the University of Sheffield International College (USIC) International Foundation Year in Business, Social Sciences and Humanities, the International Year One in Business Management and Accounting, and NCUK’s International Foundation Year and International Year One.
  • University study in China: students who have completed year one of a four-year Chinese bachelor’s degree are considered for year one; holders of a three-year university diploma (dazhuan) are considered for year two (a general statement for all courses).

3. Academic requirements: Canadian high schools

  • British Columbia: Sheffield’s table lists an 80% average in five Grade 12 subjects on the BC Dogwood Diploma for AAB and 75% for ABB. Canadian graduates with 75% to 85% in five Grade 12 subjects are considered for direct first-year entry, varying slightly by province.
  • Ontario: an 80% average in six Grade 12 U or M courses for AAB.
  • GCSE Maths: the course pages also require GCSE Maths at 6/B; Sheffield does not say how Canadian Grade 12 maths meets this, so confirm with the Management School.
  • IB: IB students in Canada follow the IB requirement above.

4. English requirements

  • IELTS 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in each component, or an equivalent such as GCSE English Language at 4/C.
  • International students below the requirement can progress through courses at the University of Sheffield International College.

5. UCAS and timeline

  • Apply through UCAS with the course code (Business Management N200, Accounting and Financial Management N420), a personal statement and a reference.
  • UCAS equal consideration deadline: the University of Birmingham states 13 January 2027, 18:00 UK time for 2027 entry; check UCAS. International students should apply early to leave time for the visa.
  • After receiving offers, choose your Firm and Insurance in UCAS, noting the scholarship timing rules.

6. Transfer students

  • Canada: Sheffield says students transferring from a four-year bachelor’s program in Canada are considered for year one or two, with a high current GPA and strong grades in relevant subjects.
  • China: see above; year one of a four-year degree leads to year one, a dazhuan to year two.
  • The business course pages give no specific second-year entry criteria; contact the Management School.

7. Fees and scholarships

  • International fees: new full-time overseas undergraduates in 2027/28 pay between £27,650 and £34,670 a year (excluding Medicine and Dentistry). The exact business fee is given through Sheffield’s fee look-up tool, not on the course page; your first-year fee stays the same each year on the same course.
  • International Undergraduate Scholarship: Sheffield currently shows the September 2026 version: £2,500 a year, up to £10,000 for four-year courses, applied automatically as a fee discount if you make Sheffield your Firm or Insurance choice by the deadline, renewable with a 60% average; it does not apply to placement or abroad years. The 2027 version has not been published.
