How to Apply to Business at Lingnan University: Seven BBA (Hons) Majors, with Requirements and Timelines for Mainland Gaokao Candidates, International Curricula, Canadian High School Students and Transfer Students

Lingnan University is in Tuen Mun, Hong Kong. Its undergraduate business degrees are offered by the Faculty of Business, and all of them lead to the Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons), or BBA, with admission by major. Here is what you need to know for 2027 entry, based on Lingnan’s official information, for students at high schools in China (Gaokao and international curricula), students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver students), and transfer students.

1. The business majors

• Majors open for first-year entry (all award the BBA (Hons)):
  • Finance (JS7213): electives in investment, corporate finance and FinTech; Lingnan mentions a CFA student scholarship and possible exemptions from some professional exams;
  • Accounting and Corporate Governance (JS7211): Professional Accounting and Corporate Governance concentrations, with industry internships;
  • Marketing and Social Media (JS7215): integrated marketing, social media and digital marketing, consumer behaviour and marketing research;
  • Management and Analytics (JS7214): Global Business Management and Analytics, or Human Resource Management and Analytics;
  • Business Analytics and Innovation (JS7212): e-business, information systems, operations management and data science, with UGC-funded and self-financed places;
  • Risk and Insurance Management (JS7216): also with UGC-funded and self-financed places.
• Senior-year entry only: Human Resource Management and Analytics.
• Related double degree: BBA Finance with BSc Innovative Design and Artificial Intelligence (self-financed).
• Lingnan says the BBA programmes offer scholarships for strong academic or community-service records, plus exchange, service and internship opportunities.

2. Students at high schools in China

Current Gaokao candidates (including repeat candidates)

• Independent admission: Lingnan recruits in the Mainland on its own and is not part of the national unified admission plan. Apply directly through Lingnan’s online system under “Current Mainland Gaokao Candidates”. Under Ministry of Education rules, once you accept a Lingnan offer and confirm enrolment, Mainland universities in the unified plan will not admit you.
• Minimum requirements:
  • a Gaokao total at or above your province’s first-tier line or special-type admission control line;
  • at least 110 out of 150 in Gaokao English; other English tests cannot replace it.
• Selection: Gaokao results, English, activities and achievements, overall quality, and an interview where required. There are no arts/science streams or provincial quotas.
• Choices: up to 3 UGC-funded and 3 self-financed programmes, ranked; choices cannot be changed after submission. The fee is HKD 200 per application.
• Dates: applications for 2027 entry open on 8 October 2026. The timeline currently posted is for 2026 entry (deadline and Gaokao candidate number by 10 June, offers from late June to early July, HKD 10,000 deposit). Lingnan has not yet published the 2027 dates.

International curricula and other qualifications

• Apply under “Overseas, Mainland and Transfer Applicants Holding International Qualifications”, with up to 6 programme choices at HKD 200 each.
• A-level: passes in three A-level subjects, or two A-levels plus two AS subjects, excluding Chinese and English language subjects.
• IB: the IB Diploma.
• US curriculum / AP: a high school diploma plus SAT 1190, ACT 24, or grade 3 in two AP subjects.
• These are university-wide minimums; Lingnan does not publish separate cut-offs for the business majors.

3. Students at Canadian high schools

• BC: BC Certificate of Graduation with a 70% average in five Grade 12 or provincially examinable courses.
• Ontario: OSSD with a 70% average in six Grade 12 U or M courses; Alberta, Manitoba and other provinces also need a 70% average in five Grade 12 courses.
• English: 70% in a Grade 12 English course meets the English requirement.
• Apply through the international qualifications route; dates are below.

4. English requirements and dates (international route)

• English (one of): IELTS Academic 6.0 overall (One Skill Retake accepted); TOEFL iBT 79 in one sitting (MyBest not accepted); PTE Academic 62; SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 590; ACT 23 in both English and Reading; AP English Language or Literature 4; IB English A 4 or English B (HL 4 / SL 5); Gaokao English 110.
• Dates:
  • applications open 8 October 2026;
  • early round deadline 30 November 2026;
  • main round deadline 28 February 2027;
  • final round for non-local applicants 30 June 2027.
• Review: rolling; some programmes interview or set oral/written tests, and each applicant receives at most one programme offer.
• Credit: IB and A-level holders with seven years of secondary schooling receive a 15-credit block transfer towards free electives.
• Ask the IB, College Board or ACT to send your scores to Lingnan.

5. Transfer students

• Apply through the same online system; applications are reviewed on a rolling, case-by-case basis.
• Your year of entry depends on the credits transferred.
• Submit university transcripts, programme structure and syllabuses, plus any references, awards and pre-university exam results.
• Lingnan notes that UGC guidelines generally discourage repeating UGC-funded undergraduate study across institutions.

6. Fees and scholarships

• Tuition for 2027–28:
  • UGC-funded programmes: HKD 205,000 a year for non-local students;
  • self-financed Business Analytics and Innovation and Risk and Insurance Management: HKD 205,000 a year;
  • BBA Finance and BSc Innovative Design and AI double degree: HKD 230,000 a year.
• Other fees: student visa fee HKD 700; 2027–28 hostel fees are under review and not yet published.
• Non-local scholarships: non-local applicants to UGC-funded first-year programmes are automatically considered for a Full Scholarship (tuition, hostel and part of academic and living expenses), a Full-tuition Scholarship or a Half-tuition Scholarship, renewable annually up to the normal study period.
• Faculty of Business entrance scholarships: each major has its own, linked from the fees and scholarships page.

Checklist

Students at high schools in China:

• Gaokao candidates: from 8 October 2026, apply directly via “Current Mainland Gaokao Candidates”, with up to 3 UGC-funded and 3 self-financed choices
• Aim for a total above your province’s first-tier line and 110+ in Gaokao English; submit your Gaokao candidate number on time
• International curricula: three A-level passes or the IB Diploma, IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 79, applying by the early or main round deadline

Students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver):

• A 70% average in five Grade 12 courses; 70% in Grade 12 English meets the English requirement
• Apply by 30 June 2027 at the latest, and earlier is better

Transfer students:

• Submit transcripts and syllabuses; your year of entry depends on transferred credits
