How to Apply to Computer Science at the University of Toronto: The Arts & Science Computer Science Admission Category on St. George, Program Entry After First Year, and Options at UTM and UTSC, with Requirements and Timeline for Chinese and Canadian High School Students and Transfer Students

2026-10-18 · Application guides

All three University of Toronto campuses offer computer science. On St. George you apply to the Faculty of Arts & Science Computer Science admission category (OUAC code TAD) with a supplemental application and request a program at the end of first year; students in this category are guaranteed admission to a CS program if they meet minimum requirements. UTM (TMX) requires a supplementary application and lists a competitive average in the mid to high 80s; UTSC (TXC) admits directly from high school only, with averages in the low 90s. International students entering in 2027 pay CAD 68,750 in first year, with higher fees from second year. The application deadline is 15 January 2027.

The University of Toronto offers computer science on all three campuses—St. George, Mississauga (UTM) and Scarborough (UTSC)—and each is applied to separately. From 1 September 2027, all three will award the new Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS). Here is what you need to know for September 2027 entry, based on the university’s official information, for students at high schools in China (including A-level, IB and AP students), students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver students), and transfer students.

1. St. George: enter Arts & Science, then apply to a program after first year

  • No direct entry to the program: the Department of Computer Science states that in Arts & Science you are not admitted directly to a CS program. You are admitted to an admission category and apply to a CS program at the end of first year.
  • The Computer Science admission category: OUAC code TAD. Students admitted to this category are guaranteed admission to CS programs at the end of first year if they meet minimum requirements, and are also eligible for the CS Specialist.
  • Students from other categories apply competitively to the CS Major or Minor, or the Data Science Specialist, but not the CS Specialist.
  • One chance: all students must apply during the first program request period only; those admitted after second or third year pay retroactive program fees.
  • Supplemental application (required): the admissions program page lists St. George Computer Science as “Supplemental Application Required”. Questions and dates are published by Arts & Science, which we could not access; see the Arts & Science Computer Science admission category page.
  • Programs: Specialist or Major, with optional Focuses such as Artificial Intelligence, Computer Systems, Computer Vision, Game Design, Human-Computer Interaction and Theory of Computation, and combinations with other Arts & Science programs.
  • New degree: from 1 September 2027 the CS Specialist, CS Major and Data Science Specialist lead to the BCS; curriculum, standards and admission requirements are unchanged.
  • Work-integrated learning is listed as available.

2. Computer science at UTM and UTSC

  • UTM: OUAC code TMX, competitive average in the mid to high 80s. Ontario prerequisites are ENG4U, MCV4U and MHF4U, with MDM4U recommended. A mandatory supplementary application is completed on the Join U of T website after applying on OUAC: one written question asking you to list achievements or experiences, not reflected on your transcript, that show your interest and potential in computing. The fee is CAD 52 and the deadline is 1 February 2027. Entry is directly from high school only; anyone with post-secondary study (including at other U of T divisions) is ineligible.
  • UTSC: OUAC code TXC, four years, with a co-op option. Required Grade 12 English, Advanced Functions and Calculus and Vectors (or equivalents), with at least 70% in English; approximate averages are the low 90s, and the high 90s for co-op. It is direct from high school only.
  • OUAC allows up to three program areas per cycle, with one per faculty or campus, so you can apply to computer science on all three campuses.

3. Students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver)

  • St. George (TAD):
    • Ontario: OSSD with six 4U/M courses, including ENG4U (or EAE4U) and MCV4U;
    • BC: English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12, and Calculus 12 or AP Calculus (AB/BC).
  • Averages: an admission average for the St. George CS category is not shown on the pages we could access; check the Arts & Science website.
  • UTM and UTSC: students from other provinces need equivalents of the English, Advanced Functions and Calculus courses above; check each campus page.

4. Students at high schools in China

  • How to apply: if you have never studied in Canada and apply only to U of T among Ontario universities, you can use the U of T International Application; otherwise use OUAC.
  • Chinese curriculum: senior high school graduation diploma, Academic Proficiency Test (Huikao) results and Gaokao results; SAT/ACT optional, AP encouraged. You also need final-year English and calculus; see the requirements by country.
  • St. George requirements by curriculum:
    • A-level: English (GCSE, IGCSE, O, AS or A-level) and AS or A-level Mathematics (calculus);
    • IB: English (HL or SL), and Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation HL or Analysis and Approaches SL or HL;
    • US curriculum/AP: senior-level or AP English, and senior-level or AP Calculus.
  • The St. George or UTM supplemental application is also required.

5. English requirements

  • IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0;
  • TOEFL iBT: from 21 January 2026, 4.5 overall (4.5 writing, 4.0 speaking); earlier tests 89 overall (22 in speaking and writing); MyBest not accepted;
  • Duolingo 120.

6. Timeline (September 2027 entry)

  • 7 November 2026: early application date;
  • 15 January 2027: application deadline;
  • 1 February 2027: document deadline, and the UTM CS supplementary application deadline;
  • the St. George supplemental deadline is published by Arts & Science.

7. Tuition

  • U of T’s 2026-27 Tuition Fee Report shows that international students in Computer Science, Bioinformatics and Data Science pay the general Arts & Science fee in Year 1 and a higher program fee from Year 2.
  • 2027 entry: CAD 68,750 in the first year (2027-28, for information).
  • For reference, the 2026 cohort: CAD 66,110 in the first year and CAD 72,480 in the second year (2027-28).
  • UTSC estimates international first-year core fees (tuition, fees, health insurance) at CAD 67,700–68,700, plus CAD 1,010–3,032 for co-op.

8. Transfer students

  • UTM and UTSC: the Computer Science admission categories are direct from high school only; applicants with any post-secondary study are not eligible.
  • St. George: whether external transfer students can enter the CS category, and on what terms, is not stated on the pages we could access; check with Arts & Science.
  • Current U of T students: Arts & Science students in other categories can apply competitively to the CS Major or Minor at the end of first year.
