How to Apply to Computer Science at Concordia University: Math Requirements and Co-op for the Gina Cody School Bachelor of Computer Science (BCompSc), with Requirements and Timeline for Chinese and Canadian High School Students and Transfer Students

2026-10-18 · Application guides

Concordia University’s Bachelor of Computer Science (BCompSc) is offered by the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science. High school students apply directly, can apply to Honours after 30 credits, and can add paid co-op. The high school minimum is a B overall and a B+ in math (pre-calculus or calculus); in BC a B+ is about 81–85%. IB applicants need 29 points, and A-Level applicants two A-Levels at CC with a B in math. The fall deadline is March 1, and international applicants should apply by February 1. International tuition for fall 2026 is CAD 1,285 per credit. This guide covers structure, requirements, English, deadlines, transfers and costs.

At Concordia University in Montreal, computer science is taught by the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering in the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science, leading to a Bachelor of Computer Science (BCompSc). High school students apply directly to this degree. Here is what you need to know for fall 2027 entry, based on Concordia’s official information, for students at high schools in China, students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver students), and transfer students.

1. Program structure

  • Length: three or four years of full-time study (90–120 credits), depending on your background, at the downtown Sir George Williams campus, with fall and winter entry.
  • Courses: the core covers theory, mathematical basics, programming methodology, computer architecture, data structures, operating systems and software engineering, plus computer science and math electives and a minor or general electives.
  • Honours: new students apply to the BCompSc and can apply to Honours after completing 30 credits.
  • Integrated path: up to 16 undergraduate credits can also count toward an MEng (Software Engineering, Information Systems Security, Quality Systems Engineering) or a Master of Applied Computer Science.
  • Co-op: paid work terms of 12–16 weeks in areas such as software quality assurance, programming, debugging and testing.
  • Related programs: Computer Science – Computation Arts (BCompSc) and engineering degrees such as software engineering are not covered here.

2. Students at Canadian high schools (including BC)

  • Minimum: B overall and B+ in math, with one math from pre-calculus, calculus or equivalent. Concordia says cut-offs are indicators that may change with the applicant pool, and meeting them does not guarantee admission.
  • British Columbia: a high school diploma with at least four approved Grade 12 academic subjects, including English 12, English Studies 12 or English 12 First Peoples; the BCompSc requires Pre-Calculus 12 or Calculus 12 (the Health and Life Science option also needs two of Grade 12 biology, chemistry and physics).
  • Grade conversion: on Concordia’s table, a B in BC is 77–80% and a B+ is 81–85%; in Ontario and several other provinces a B is 73–76% and a B+ 77–79%.
  • Quebec CEGEP: 25 overall (R score) and 26 in math, with Calculus 1, Calculus 2 and Linear Algebra.
  • Concordia does not require the SAT or ACT.

3. Students at high schools in China

  • Credential: Concordia lists the Senior Middle School Graduation Certificate (普通高中毕业证书) and does not mention the Gaokao; expect standards equivalent to a B overall and a B+ in math, with strong math results.
  • IB Diploma: 29 overall, with math at 4 HL or 5 SL (Applications and Interpretation HL, Analysis and Approaches HL or Analysis and Approaches SL).
  • British system: at least two A-Levels at CC with a B in math, or at least four AS-Levels with equivalent results. Students without A-Level math may be admissible on AS or IGCSE results and should include all exam results from IGCSE onwards.
  • AP: the computer science page does not list AP requirements; see the international requirements page.

4. English requirements

  • TOEFL iBT (including Home Edition) 70; for tests from January 2026 on the new scale, 4.0 with no section below 3.5; MyBest accepted.
  • IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band below 5.5; Duolingo 105 with no subscore below 90.
  • The BCompSc is not on Concordia’s list of programs requiring higher English scores.

5. Deadlines

  • Fall entry: March 1; U.S. and international applicants should apply no later than February 1 for immigration processing, and earlier is strongly recommended.
  • Winter entry (January): November 1; international applicants by August 1.
  • Concordia may close admission to a program at any time after the deadline.

6. Transfers

  • External transfers: B overall and B+ in math, with courses in calculus and linear algebra, and Concordia’s general minimums.
  • Internal transfers: 2.7 overall, 3.0 in math and 1.7 in Gina Cody School courses, with at least two of MATH 203, 204 and 205 (or equivalents).
  • See Concordia’s transfer page for credit assessment; graduates of eligible technical DECs (420.A0/B0/AA) may be admissible without the listed prerequisites.

7. Tuition and awards

  • International tuition (fall 2026): engineering and computer science programs cost CAD 1,285 per credit (CAD 1,190 in summer 2026). At 30 credits a year that is about CAD 38,550 plus fees (our calculation from Concordia’s rate).
  • Canadians who are not Quebec residents (new since fall 2024): CAD 432.85 per credit.
  • Undergraduate Excellence Award: a guaranteed CAD 4,000, automatic, for Canadian citizens and permanent residents finishing Grade 12, CEGEP, IB or the French Baccalaureate in Canada. Concordia does not list separate international entrance award amounts.
