How to Apply to Computer Science at the University of Warwick: A*A*A With A* in Maths, IB 39 and the Compulsory TMUA, with Requirements and Timeline for Chinese and Canadian High School Students and Transfer Students
Warwick offers Computer Science as a three-year BSc (UCAS G400) and a four-year MEng (G403), both with an optional year in industry, research or abroad between Years Two and Three. The typical offer is A*A*A including A* in Mathematics, or IB 39 with 7 in HL Mathematics (Analysis and Approaches). All applicants except those eligible for a contextual offer must take the TMUA in October 2026 or January 2027, and the score requirement is not published. For BC students, A*A*A equals an 89% average across five Grade 12 courses. English is Band A (IELTS 6.0). The UCAS deadline is 13 January 2027. Based on Warwick’s official information, this guide covers courses, entry, TMUA, English, fees and a checklist.
Computer Science at the University of Warwick is taught by the Department of Computer Science. Here is what you need to know for September 2027 entry, based on Warwick’s official information, for students at high schools in China (including A-level/IB students at international schools), students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver students), and transfer students.
1. The courses
- Computer Science BSc (G400): three years full-time, starting 27 September 2027.
- Computer Science MEng (G403): an integrated four-year master’s with the same entry requirements.
- Year in industry or abroad: BSc students may spend a year in industry, a research institution or abroad between Years Two and Three; MEng students between Years Two and Three or Three and Four. This is reflected in the degree title.
- Content: Year 1 covers advanced mathematics, computer architecture and programming; Year 2 operating systems, networks, databases and software engineering; Year 3 an individual project, with options in areas such as artificial intelligence, computer graphics and computer security. The course starts from first principles, so no prior programming is needed, but a strong mathematics background is.
- Accreditation: BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT.
- Interviews: Warwick does not typically interview.
2. Entry requirements: A-level, IB and TMUA
- A-level: typical offer A*A*A including A* in Mathematics. Only your top three grades (including Mathematics) count; a fourth A-level is not considered. Further Maths is not essential but highly recommended; single-Maths applicants are considered where schools do not offer it.
- GCSE: a strong profile with most grades at A/7 and A*/8-9; English Language and Mathematics at least C/4.
- IB: 39 with 7, 6, 6 at Higher Level, including 7 in HL Mathematics (Analysis and Approaches only).
- Contextual offers: eligible UK applicants typically receive A*AA with A in Maths, or IB 38 with 6 in HL Maths.
- The TMUA is compulsory:
- All applicants must take the TMUA except those eligible for a contextual offer; others who do not take it may not be considered.
- TMUA scores are assessed with GCSEs and predicted grades; the requirement is set after all results are in and is not published.
- Test windows: 12–16 October 2026 or 4–8 January 2027; online registration for January closes on 21 December. Only one result per cycle counts, neither sitting is advantaged, and Warwick encourages the October sitting.
- The test is taken at Pearson VUE centres in more than 180 countries: two parts of 20 multiple-choice questions, 75 minutes each, no calculator. The fee outside the UK is £133.
3. Students at high schools in China
- Senior high school graduates: Warwick requires a foundation programme such as the Warwick International Foundation Programme (IFP). IFP students applying through UCAS receive guaranteed conditional offers for selected courses; check the IFP pages for whether Computer Science is included.
- The “one year of bachelor’s plus Gaokao” route does not apply: on Warwick’s China page, the A*A*A row is marked “NA”.
- CEIS: for courses with a high Maths requirement, CEIS applicants typically need 85% in the Gaokao with 210 in AST English and 230 in AST Maths and Physics. Warwick does not state which category Computer Science falls into, so confirm with Warwick.
- Maple Leaf World Schools: A*A*A equals an 89% average across five Grade 12 academic courses.
- International school students: apply with A-levels or the IB as above, and take the TMUA.
- AP: on Warwick’s Canada page, an A* subject requirement equals an AP test score of 5.
4. Students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver)
- British Columbia (and Yukon): an average across five Grade 12 academic or AP courses, including subject requirements and with no overlap; A*A*A equals 89%.
- Mathematics: the A* in Mathematics equals 90% in a Grade 12 course or 5 on an AP test. AP Calculus AB and Grade 12 Calculus overlap and count once.
- Ontario: the department says OSSD applicants are considered if they take AP Calculus BC; all other provincial qualifications are considered.
- English: 85% in BC English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 meets the English requirement.
- The TMUA is required here too.
5. Transfer students
- The course pages do not describe any second-year entry route, and Warwick publishes no rules for it. Students with university study usually apply for Year 1; contact Warwick undergraduate admissions first.
6. English requirements (Band A)
- IELTS Academic: 6.0 overall with at least 5.5 in each component, in one sitting; One Skill Retake is not accepted.
- TOEFL iBT: for tests from 21 January 2026, 4.5 overall and in each component; earlier tests 87 (Listening 21, Writing 21, Reading 22, Speaking 23). MyBest is not accepted.
- Duolingo: 110 overall with at least 100 in each component.
- IELTS, PTE and some others must be taken within two years and one month of the course start. These are the currently published 2026 entry standards.
7. UCAS application and timeline (September 2027 entry)
- 12–16 October 2026: TMUA sitting 1.
- 4–8 January 2027: TMUA sitting 2.
- 13 January 2027 (18:00 UK time): UCAS equal consideration deadline.
- Personal statement: from 2026 entry, three questions with 4,000 characters in total.
- 27 September 2027: course starts.
8. Fees and scholarships
- Overseas fees: 2027–28 fees are not yet set. For 2026–27, overseas fees have two bands: Band 1 at £27,870 a year (classroom-based courses) and Band 2 at £35,530 (laboratory-based courses plus Mathematics, Statistics, Economics and others). The course page lists both bands without stating which applies to Computer Science; your offer will confirm it.
- Home students: £10,050 for 2027–28.
- Scholarships: the department has no undergraduate scholarships; see Warwick’s university-wide scholarship pages.
