The University of Huddersfield is in West Yorkshire in the north of England, and its art and design degrees sit across Art and Illustration, Design, and Fashion and Textiles. This guide summarises 2027/28 entry from the university's official pages for students at high schools in China, students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver), and transfer students. Its UCAS institution code is HUDDS / H60.

1. Courses

BA (Hons) courses starting on 20 September 2027:

  • Art and Illustration: Fine Art, Fine Art and Illustration, Illustration.
  • Design: Graphic Design, Graphic Design with Animation, Interior Design, Product Innovation.
  • Fashion and Textiles: Fashion Design with Textiles, Fashion Design with Marketing, Fashion Communication and Promotion, Costume with Textiles.

All run for three years full-time, or four with a placement year (at least 36 weeks) after Year 2; some courses also offer a Portfolio Sandwich Year built from several shorter opportunities. A one-year Art, Design and Architecture Foundation Pathway Degree serves as Year 0 of a four- or five-year degree for students without direct-entry qualifications. The course pages don't list UCAS course codes, so check UCAS when you apply.

2. Portfolio

  • The international applying page says a portfolio is needed for many courses in Art, Design and Architecture. The undergraduate page also says you may be asked to attend an interview or audition, or show a portfolio, after you apply, depending on the course, and that the invitation gives full details, including whether it is online.
  • The course pages we read don't state the number of pieces, format, deadline or whether there is an interview. This is not published; follow the invitation email, or ask admissions in advance.

3. Entry requirements

  • Fine Art, Fine Art and Illustration, Illustration: A-Level BBC–BCC, or 112–104 UCAS points; BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma DMM–MMM; Merit in the UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma; a Pass in the Diploma Foundation Studies in Art and Design combined with A-Levels or BTECs to reach 112–104 points; or 112–104 points from the IB.
  • Graphic Design, Graphic Design with Animation, Interior Design, Product Innovation, and the fashion and costume courses: A-Level BBB–BCC, or 120–104 UCAS points.
  • Foundation Pathway: 64 UCAS points, A-Level DDE.
  • English: IELTS 6.0 overall with no element below 5.5, or equivalent, if English is not your first language.
  • China and Canada: the country-specific requirements page loads its content by script, and we couldn't read it. Gaokao and BC diploma requirements are not published on the pages we could read; open that page and choose your country, or ask international admissions. If you don't meet direct-entry requirements, preparatory courses such as a Foundation Year or International Year One are offered through Study Group.

4. How and when to apply

  • International students can apply direct to the university online, through an official, quality-certified representative, or through UCAS. UK applicants use UCAS.
  • The international applying page currently lists dates for September 2026 entry (apply by 17 July 2026, meet conditions by 14 August, teaching from 21 September) and January 2027 entry (apply by 31 October 2026); September 2027 dates aren't published yet.
  • The undergraduate page still gives the previous cycle's UCAS equal consideration deadline (14 January 2026); for 2027 entry, follow that year's UCAS dates. After the January deadline you can still apply until 30 June, though some courses may have fewer places.

5. Fees and scholarships

  • UK fees for 2027/28 are £10,050 a year. The international fee shown is £17,600 a year, labelled as the 2026/27 entry fee; the 2027/28 figure isn't published yet. The international placement-year fee is £3,300. The Fine Art page estimates specialist materials at about £60 in Year 1, £100 in Year 2 and £200 in Year 3, with basic materials provided.
  • International merit scholarship: no separate application; self-funded international fee-paying applicants are considered automatically and told in their offer letter. Undergraduates with the equivalent of A-Level AAB receive £4,000 a year, and those meeting the general entry requirements £2,000 a year, for every year of the course except the placement year. It can't be combined with other scholarships.
  • Paying the full tuition deposit by the deadline also takes £1,000 off the first year; the deadline currently shown is 31 October 2026 for January 2027 entry.

6. Transfers

  • The pages we read don't give conditions for joining Year 2 from another university; this isn't published, so ask admissions.
