Murdoch University (Murdoch) offers two undergraduate engineering degrees in its Engineering and Energy study area: the four-year Bachelor of Engineering Honours and the three-year Bachelor of Engineering Technology. Both are taught face to face at the Perth campus, both offer majors in Electrical and Renewable Energy, Environmental, and Industrial Control and Automation, and both start in Semester 1 and Semester 2, 2027. The course pages list a selection rank of 80 for the Honours degree and 70 for Engineering Technology, and the indicative first-year international fee is AUD 44,040 for both. This guide covers Australian, international and Chinese applicants and transfer students, based on Murdoch’s official information.

Murdoch University (Murdoch) is in Perth, Western Australia, and its engineering degrees sit in the “Engineering and Energy” study area on its website. Murdoch highlights a real-world engineering plant (the Bayer Pilot Plant) with a dedicated control room on campus, which it describes as the only one of its kind in a Western Australian university. Here is what you need to know for 2027 entry, based on Murdoch’s official information, for Australian applicants, international applicants, applicants from China and transfer students. The only undergraduate engineering degrees on the study-area page are the two below; no engineering double degrees were seen.

1. Undergraduate engineering degrees and majors

  • Bachelor of Engineering Honours: four years full time, AQF level 8, Murdoch code H1287, CRICOS code 110888F, starting Semester 1 and Semester 2, 2027, face to face at the Murdoch (Perth) campus (part time is listed, but international students study full time). Murdoch describes it as an accredited engineering honours degree taught in a real engineering plant.
  • Bachelor of Engineering Technology: three years full time (part time is listed, but international students study full time), AQF level 7, Murdoch code B1408, CRICOS code 110889E, also starting Semester 1 and Semester 2, 2027, face to face at Perth. Potential roles listed include engineering technologist, control systems technician and renewable energy technician.
  • Majors (the same for both): Electrical and Renewable Energy Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Industrial Control and Automation Engineering. The course pages do not list mechanical, civil, chemical, aerospace or biomedical streams.
  • Accreditation: the Honours page says all three majors are currently fully accredited by Engineers Australia at the level of Professional Engineer (Washington Accord), graduates are eligible for graduate membership, and Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status can follow after a further three to five years of professional experience. The Engineering Technology page does not mention Engineers Australia accreditation in the pages read; ask Murdoch.
  • Bachelor to master’s link: the study area lists a Master of Engineering Practice, but the pages read do not say how it connects to the undergraduate degrees.

2. How admission works: straight into the degree, or a general first year?

  • You choose one of the two degrees when you apply; the course pages do not describe a general first-year engineering stream. When and how you choose a major is in the course structure section, which loads by script from a path (/study/courses/course-structure/) that Murdoch’s robots.txt disallows, so it was not read for this guide.
  • Admission is by selection rank or equivalent: the Honours page says selection rank 80; the Engineering Technology page says ATAR 70, and the study-area page also lists selection rank 70.
  • Limits on places, transfer into engineering and GPA-based allocation are not described in the pages read. Murdoch’s pages carry two statements side by side: the general entry requirements page says that to apply for an honours degree you need a relevant bachelor’s degree, generally with a distinction average in the final year, while the Bachelor of Engineering Honours course page lists school-leaver entry (selection rank 80) for this four-year degree. Rely on the course page and confirm with admissions.

3. Prerequisites

  • The admission sections of both course pages give selection ranks, minimum results by qualification and English requirements, but do not list specific mathematics, physics or chemistry prerequisites in the pages read; unit prerequisites are in the course handbook, so ask Murdoch.
  • Mathematics placement tests and IB/A-Level credit towards engineering core units are not covered in the pages read.

4. Australian applicants

  • Selection rank: Bachelor of Engineering Honours 80, which can be met by an ATAR of 80 (adjusted or unadjusted); Bachelor of Engineering Technology 70 (for WA, ACT, NSW, NT, SA, TAS and VIC results). The Engineering Technology page’s results table also lists a Queensland QCE Overall Position (OP) of 13 or lower (a lower number is better).
  • Other routes (listed on the Engineering Technology page): Western Australian Universities Foundation Program CPS 54 (59 for Honours); Murdoch College preparation courses (MUPC and others, 50% or higher in all subjects); enabling courses such as OnTrack Flex, OnTrack Sprint and K-Track (completion); a VET course studied at school, Certificate IV or higher (a Diploma or higher for Honours); STAT multiple choice 135 (155 for Honours) plus Written English 140; and for mature-age applicants the Mature Age Pathway, an interview and portfolio.
  • Murdoch RISE adjustment: for students from regional areas, Indigenous and low socio-economic backgrounds with an ATAR of 60.00–89.95, up to 10 points can be added, to a maximum selection rank of 90.00; there is no application, the adjustment is added automatically if you are eligible.
  • How to apply: Year 12 students applying for Semester 1 must apply through TISC with up to six preferences (TISC opened on 2 June 2026); for Semester 2, 2027 apply directly to Murdoch. Non-school-leavers apply directly through MyAdmission. For the early offer, rank Murdoch first on TISC; Murdoch assesses end-of-Year-11 or mid-Year-12 results, makes conditional offers from 5 October 2026 and closes early-offer applications at 5pm on 2 December 2026. The final date for other rounds is “to be confirmed”.
  • Enabling pathway: the TISC page says that if you fall short you can complete the free OnTrack Sprint (four weeks) or OnTrack Flex and then apply to any course with a minimum selection rank of 70; the Honours degree requires 80, and the page does not say whether enabling courses meet that.
  • Domestic fees: indicative Commonwealth-supported first-year fee for 2027 is AUD 9,390 for Engineering Technology (AUD 28,170 for the course) and AUD 9,501 for Honours (AUD 38,003), based on 24 credit points and tuition only.

5. International applicants

  • Results: the course page shows requirements by country of study through a script that could not be read. The Honours page says selection rank 80 can be met by an ATAR of 80, an IB Diploma score of 27 or higher, a French Baccalauréat average of 12 or higher, A-Levels of 7 points (conditions apply), one successful semester of study at AQF level 7, or one year of successful study at a recognised tertiary institution; for other qualifications call the Meet Murdoch team (+61 8 9360 6063) to determine equivalencies. The requirements shown on the pages for everyone: IB Diploma total of 24 for Engineering Technology and 27 for Honours; A-Levels of 6 points from the best 2 or 3 subjects for Engineering Technology (A*=6, A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1, AS at half points) and 7 points for Honours (conditions apply).
  • English (standard undergraduate): engineering is not among the undergraduate courses listed with higher English requirements (the list includes education, law, nursing, health science and others). Standard minimums: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with 6.0 in each band; TOEFL iBT 60 (Reading 13, Writing 21, Speaking 18, Listening 12), not accepted if taken between 26 July 2023 and 4 May 2024; PTE 50 (Reading 53, Writing 54, Speaking 50, Listening 50); Duolingo 115 (Reading 110, Writing 110, Speaking 110, Listening 105); C1 Advanced 169. STAT Written English 140, university preparation courses, English language courses, previous tertiary study and vocational education are also accepted as evidence.
  • English exemptions: previous tertiary study in English may be considered only if completed at university level (AQF level 7 or higher) within five years before starting; foundation results may be considered only if completed within two years before starting (the page lists exceptions). The previous-study page lists qualifications by country (for example bachelor degrees from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States), with at least two AQF level 7 university units, or 8 months to 1 year of a university-level diploma, for undergraduate entry.
  • Genuine Student (GS) requirement: every applicant who needs a student visa is assessed for the Australian Government’s GS requirement as part of admission; Murdoch may ask for more information or an interview. The page lists countries whose citizens must apply through an agent; China (and Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau) is not on that list, so applicants from countries not listed may apply directly to Murdoch or through an agent.
  • Documents (international): official academic transcripts and certificates of your highest study (original and English translated), proof of English proficiency, and GS documents (GS Form 2, personal statement, up-to-date CV, passport copy, if applicable). Recommended: visa documents, past visa refusals, packaged offer letter, sponsorship documents and unit outlines for advanced standing. Additional essays, recommendation letters or interviews for engineering are not mentioned in the pages read.
  • Application fee: not stated in the pages read.

6. Applicants from China

  • The course page’s “Overseas Year 12” row says to refer to the information for your country of study; the country-specific requirements (whether the Gaokao is used and what school marks are needed) load by script and could not be read for this guide. Select China on the course page or contact international admissions (+61 8 9360 6063).
  • A pathway after Chinese high school: Murdoch College’s Murdoch University Preparation Course (MUPC), MUPC (Accelerated Entry) and Foundation Studies, with a final mark of 50% or higher in all subjects; completing these also meets the English requirement, as does English for Academic Purposes with a final mark of 65%. Other institutions’ foundation courses are also listed with their own English thresholds.
  • Whether Chinese transcripts need verification by an accreditation body is not stated. Murdoch has no China-specific country page in the pages read, and engineering interview requirements are not mentioned (an interview may be requested during the GS assessment).

7. Transfers, credit and pathways

  • Previous university study: successful completion of 4 units at an Australian university or Open Universities Australia for the Honours degree, and 2 units for Engineering Technology.
  • Vocational education: completing a Diploma or Advanced Diploma (AQF levels 5–6) meets the academic requirement for Engineering Technology; the results table also lists a Certificate IV (AQF level 4) with English evidence such as STAT Written English 140.
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): prior formal or informal learning can earn credit and shorten the degree. You send your transcript and award certificate, detailed unit outlines and the RPL form to RPL@murdoch.edu.au; there is an RPL calculator. International students must formally accept any RPL offered; if it changes your course duration Murdoch issues a new Confirmation of Enrolment. Credit based on work experience applies only to core units or specified electives.

8. Work experience requirements

  • Engineering Technology: the course page says all students complete at least 300 hours of approved work experience plus a report; it must be in a suitable engineering-related area and approved by the Engineering Academic Chair; support comes through the zero-credit-point unit ENG100 Engineering Professional Practice, which you enrol in each year. The overview also says 300 hours of practical learning, which may include industry projects or placements.
  • Bachelor of Engineering Honours: at least 450 hours of approved work experience.
  • Murdoch’s pages conflict here: the Engineering Technology page’s side panel and the study-area page say undergraduate engineering students gain “over 450 hours” of real-world experience, while the same page says 300 hours. The “Other requirements” figures (300 for Technology, 450 for Honours) are used here; confirm with Murdoch.

9. International fees and scholarships

  • 2027 international tuition (indicative, based on 24 credit points in the first year): AUD 44,040 for the first year of both the Bachelor of Engineering Honours and the Bachelor of Engineering Technology; the full course is AUD 176,160 (four years) and AUD 132,120 (three years). The 2026 first-year fee was AUD 41,990. Murdoch says fees are indexed annually and indexation may apply from the second year for international students. No engineering surcharge is mentioned.
  • Scholarships: Murdoch’s scholarships are listed in a scholarship finder that redirects to another domain, which was not accessed, and the pages read do not give amounts for international entry scholarships; see Murdoch’s scholarships page. The scholarships page describes Scholarships for Good, worth AUD 12,000 across a degree for students making a positive impact on the world around them outside their studies; see the page for eligibility. The international scholarships page also mentions Australia Awards Scholarships funded by the Australian Government. Engineering-specific scholarships are not described.

10. 2027 timeline

  • Start: Semester 1 and Semester 2, 2027 (the course pages also list both semesters of 2028).
  • Australian school leavers: TISC opened on 2 June 2026; early-offer applications close on 2 December 2026; other rounds are on the TISC website.
  • International applicants: apply directly through MyAdmission or through an agent; the course pages and international pages read do not give an international closing date.
