Murdoch University (Murdoch) is in Perth, Western Australia. The website lists no standalone Biology bachelor degree. The closest undergraduate degrees sit in two schools: the Bachelor of Biomedical Science in the School of Medical, Molecular and Forensic Sciences, and the Bachelor of Science (Environmental and Conservation Sciences) in the School of Environmental and Conservation Sciences. This guide sets out the key points for 2027 entry for Australian applicants, international applicants, applicants from China and transfer students.

1. Degrees and areas of study

  • Bachelor of Biomedical Science: course code B1419. The study-area page describes hands-on experience in modern labs and health facilities, with a selection rank of 70. The study-area page says the area’s curriculum spans Biomedical Science, Laboratory Medicine, Clinical Laboratory Science, Forensic Chemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology, Forensic Biology and Toxicology, and Food Science and Nutrition. Which of these are majors of the Bachelor of Biomedical Science is not given on the pages used for this guide; see the course page.
  • Bachelor of Biomedical Science / Master of Infectious Disease Surveillance and Control (B1426): listed as a combined degree with a selection rank of 90. A combined Bachelor of Laws / Bachelor of Biomedical Science (B1430) also appears in the fee table; only its fee figures are quoted here, so see the website for the rest.
  • Bachelor of Science (Environmental and Conservation Sciences): course code B1399, selection rank 70. The study-area page stresses fieldwork, real-world projects and engagement with nature and communities, including on-campus conservation wetlands and banksia woodlands and sites across Western Australia; careers named include environmental scientist, conservation biologist, marine ecologist and policy adviser.
  • Bachelor of Science Honours: listed on both study-area pages. The website says honours entry requires a relevant bachelor degree, generally with a Distinction (or equivalent) average in the final year, and a supervisor.
  • The Bachelor of Laboratory Medicine (B1374), forensic science and food science and nutrition are in the same school, and medicine, nursing, pharmacy and similar fields are outside this guide; see the website.
  • Whether you choose a major when applying or later, first-year common units and laboratory arrangements, research projects or placements, and professional accreditation: not given on the pages used for this guide; check the course pages.

2. Australian applicants

  • Selection Rank: the website says most undergraduate courses need a selection rank of 70 or above (depending on the course) plus the English language requirement. A rank of 70 can be reached with an adjusted ATAR, an International Baccalaureate score of 24 or higher, a completed accredited Certificate IV or higher, a portfolio, the required levels in the International Big Picture Learning Credential (IBPLC), or one of Murdoch’s free enabling courses.
  • English: common ways listed are Year 11 and 12 (or two years of VET) at an Australian secondary school, a scaled ATAR English score of 50% or higher, or 140 or higher in the Written English part of the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT).
  • Adjustment factors: the website says adjustment factors raise the selection rank for chosen subjects or eligibility for access programs such as Murdoch RISE. Which subjects count for these degrees is not given on the pages used for this guide; check the course pages or the TISC website.
  • How to apply: Year 12 applicants for Semester 1 apply through the Tertiary Institutions Service Centre (TISC), with up to six preferences and one offer. The website says TISC opened on 2 June 2026. Other applicants mostly apply directly through MyAdmission.
  • Early offer: Year 12 students graduating in 2026 can apply through TISC for a conditional early offer for Semester 1, 2027. Applications close at 5:00pm on 2 December 2026, and offers are made from 5 October 2026. Only first preferences are assessed, and conditions may include completing Year 12 and meeting English requirements.
  • Prerequisite subjects: neither the study-area pages nor the admissions pages state required high school biology, chemistry or mathematics for these degrees; this is not given on the pages used for this guide. Check the course page entry requirements or ask admissions.

3. International applicants

  • How to apply: the website says non-school-leavers apply directly through MyAdmission, or via an agent. Citizens of a list of countries must apply through an agent; the list is on the Genuine Student (GS) requirements page.
  • Genuine Student (GS) requirement: Murdoch assesses GS for all international applicants who need a student visa, and may request more information or an interview. Most agent-only applicants also submit a GS Stage 2 form, an up-to-date CV and a personal statement, and some also need a Declaration of Financial Capacity.
  • English: the standard undergraduate requirement is IELTS Academic 6.0 overall and 6.0 in each band; TOEFL iBT 60 overall (Reading 13, Writing 21, Speaking 18, Listening 12); PTE 50 overall (Reading 53, Writing 54, Speaking 50, Listening 50); Duolingo 115 overall (Reading 110, Writing 110, Speaking 110, Listening 105). For Medical, Molecular and Forensic Sciences, the English page sets a higher requirement for the Bachelor of Laboratory Medicine (B1374) and the combined degrees B1425, B1426 and B1427: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall and in each band. The Bachelor of Biomedical Science (B1419) and the Bachelor of Science (Environmental and Conservation Sciences) (B1399) do not appear in that list, but check the course pages.
  • 2027 international fees: in the 2027 international fee table, B1419 and B1399 each show an indicative first-year fee of AUD 44,040 and an indicative total of AUD 132,120; B1426 shows AUD 43,200 for the first year and AUD 172,800 in total; B1430 shows AUD 38,520 and AUD 192,600. The website says the figures are a guide, based on 24 credit points in the first year, cover tuition only, depend on the units chosen, and may be indexed from the second year.
  • Scholarships: Murdoch offers scholarships for international students, students facing hardship, high achievers and students in specific courses, and the scholarships page says over AUD 2.5 million is awarded each year. Whether a scholarship is specific to these degrees is not given on the pages used for this guide; check the scholarship search on the website.
  • Pathways: international students who do not meet English or academic requirements can use Murdoch College (preparation courses and others) or partner institutions, and may be eligible for a packaged Letter of Offer that puts several courses on one student visa.

4. Applicants from China

  • Not given on the pages used for this guide: whether the gaokao is accepted, how it is converted, and which transcripts and graduation documents are needed. The website says recognised overseas school results and the required level are shown in the entry requirements of each course in its course finder; check the course page for Chinese qualifications or ask the international admissions team (+61 8 9360 6063).
  • The university preparation courses page lists recognised preparation and foundation programs with their minimum results and English requirements (for example, Murdoch’s own Foundation Program requires 70% in both FDN022 and FDN025); whether a given program suits Chinese students should be confirmed on the course page and with admissions.
  • The GS requirement applies to Chinese applicants for a student visa. Whether you must apply through an agent depends on the country list on the GS page (China does not appear in the list seen for this guide); please re-check before applying.

5. Transfer students and credit

  • The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) page says previous study or relevant work experience can earn credit and shorten the degree. For formal learning, send an official transcript and award certificate, detailed unit outlines (when requesting specific exemptions) and the RPL request form to RPL@murdoch.edu.au; the website also offers an RPL calculator for partner institutions.
  • The previous tertiary study page says English-medium university study can meet the English requirement if completed at AQF level 7 or higher within five years before the start; Diploma units are the same as the first year of a degree. How many biology or chemistry units can be credited is not given on the pages used for this guide; ask when applying for RPL.
  • International students must formally accept any RPL offered; if it changes course duration, Murdoch issues a new Confirmation of Enrolment.

6. Checklist before you apply

  • On the relevant course page, check majors, entry requirements by country, prerequisite subjects, CRICOS code, intake semesters, duration and accreditation.
  • Decide whether you apply through TISC or directly; international applicants should check the GS country list.
  • Prepare English test results to the English page; Murdoch College and partners are options if you fall short.
  • Where a page prints a date without a year, check that it applies to 2027 entry.
