This year, all subjects will be administered digitally via Bluebook, with the addition of two new subjects: Cybersecurity and Business and Personal Finance. This article compiles the schedule, fees, subjects, and alternatives for subjects not offered in Mainland China.

Registration for the 2027 AP Exams in mainland China is now open. Mainland test centers are managed by Prometric under authorization from the College Board. Who can register:

  • Students at AP-authorized schools: The school's AP coordinator must first submit the roster before students can access the system to pay. Regardless of whether they are taking AP courses, they can only register through their school.
  • Independent candidates: Must have high school student status and fall into one of the following categories: their high school does not have a CEEB code or offer AP courses; they are homeschooled, self-studying, or attending an online school; they are current high school seniors needing an AP score for university applications. Independent candidates submit their information directly on MyAPChina.
  • Who cannot register as independent candidates: High school graduates, current college students, teachers, tutors, training professionals, and those not using AP scores for university applications.
  • Each subject can only be registered for once at one test center. Duplicate registrations at two test centers may be canceled directly by Prometric without notice or refund.

Fees and Payment

  • 1,525 RMB per subject, which includes 133 RMB in non-refundable service and tax fees.
  • Payment can be made via bank card, Alipay, or WeChat Pay. Successful payment guarantees a test seat.
  • No refunds are processed after registration is confirmed and paid. Refunds are only issued if registration fails or the test center cannot operate due to force majeure or circumstances beyond the control of both Prometric and the College Board. Service and tax fees will be deducted, and the remaining amount will be refunded to the original payment method.
  • Fees are non-refundable for no-shows, absences, or cancellations due to personal reasons.
  • Registration information (name in Pinyin, ID type and number, date of birth) will be printed on the admission ticket and cannot be changed afterward. Mainland candidates must present a valid original Resident Identity Card for the exam; ensure it is within the validity period and the chip is readable.

Changes for 2027

Exam Times

  • The College Board announced that start times in certain regions have been adjusted to prevent the leakage of exam questions across time zones.
  • According to the 2027 schedule published by Prometric China, the morning session starts at 8:50 AM local time, and the afternoon session starts at 1:40 PM. Actual times are subject to the admission ticket.

All Exams Now Digital

All subjects at mainland test centers will be administered via Bluebook, divided into two categories:

  • Fully digital (all questions answered on the computer): Art History, Computer Science A, Computer Science Principles, English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, Environmental Science, Psychology, Seminar, Statistics, Business and Personal Finance, and Cybersecurity.
  • Hybrid digital (multiple-choice questions answered on the computer, free-response questions viewed in Bluebook but written on paper answer sheets): Biology, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Physics 1, Physics 2, Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism, Physics C: Mechanics, and Precalculus.

Statistics was a hybrid digital exam last year but will be fully digital in 2027. The College Board has also transitioned language exams in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish to fully digital formats, with the speaking section recorded directly in Bluebook. However, these language subjects are not offered at mainland test centers (see the next section).

Device requirements: Mac, Windows computers, or iPads are acceptable; Chromebooks are not allowed. iPads and Windows tablets must be paired with a physical keyboard. Battery life must be at least 4 hours. Bluebook must be installed and tested successfully before the exam.

New Subjects

  • AP Business and Personal Finance: Morning of May 4.
  • AP Cybersecurity: Morning of May 5.

These two are new courses in the College Board's Career Kickstart series and are available at all mainland test centers.

Handling Schedule Conflicts

There are three sets of subjects scheduled at the same time at mainland test centers. If you register for both in a set, one must be moved to a late testing date:

  • English Literature and Composition (May 5) and Cybersecurity: Cybersecurity is moved to May 18.
  • Physics 1 (May 5) and Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism: Electricity and Magnetism is moved to May 20.
  • Computer Science A (May 12) and Art History: Art History is moved to May 18.

On May 18 and 20, cities with multiple test centers such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Nanjing, and Hangzhou will consolidate into a single test center. Additionally, you can only take either Calculus AB or Calculus BC in the same year; however, all four Physics exams can be taken in the same year.

What to Do About Subjects Not Offered in Mainland China

The following subjects are not on Prometric China's course list: U.S. History, World History (Modern), European History, U.S. Government and Politics, Comparative Government and Politics, Human Geography, African American Studies, Music Theory, Latin, and language subjects such as Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Italian, Spanish Language and Culture, and Spanish Literature.

Two other categories have restrictions:

  • Computer Science Principles (CSP) and Seminar: Only students officially enrolled in these courses at authorized schools can register; independent candidates cannot.
  • AP Research: Only for students officially enrolled in this course at authorized schools; self-study candidates cannot register.

To take these subjects, Prometric recommends going to a Prometric test center in Singapore or other authorized test centers in places like Hong Kong or South Korea. Taking the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) as an example: the 2027 AP registration period is from 10:00 AM on August 24, 2026, to 5:00 PM on November 2, 2026. The fee is 2,518 HKD per regular subject, and 2,607 HKD per language or Music Theory subject. Registration eligibility and ID requirements are subject to HKEAA guidelines. For overseas testing, factor in travel, accommodation, and potential scheduling conflicts with mainland exams, and make your decision early.

Preparation Tips

  • Choose your subjects first, then check the dates. Cross-reference the schedule to check for conflicts so you don't find out at the payment stage that you need to take a late exam.
  • Familiarize yourself with Bluebook early. Since all subjects are tested on a computer, take several official practice tests beforehand to get used to reading on screen and managing time.
  • For hybrid digital subjects, you still need to handwrite the free-response questions. Continue practicing your writing speed and keeping your answer sheets neat.
  • There is limited public practice material for the new subjects (Cybersecurity and Business and Personal Finance). Rely on the official College Board course frameworks.
  • Get your registration information right the first time. The Pinyin spelling of your name must exactly match your ID, and it cannot be changed after submission.
