International students start on 22 February or 26 July 2027, with direct application deadlines of 30 November of the previous year and 30 June, and tuition of about AUD 52,528 a year (2026 rate). Based on UQ’s official information, this guide covers entry, English, transfer and a checklist.
The University of Queensland (UQ) is in Brisbane. Its main undergraduate psychology degree is the Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours), a four-year program taught at the St Lucia campus. Here is what you need to know for 2027 entry, based on UQ’s official information, for students at high schools in China, students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver students), and transfer students.
1. The degree and the path to registration
- Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours): four years, program code 2379, QTAC code 757001, CRICOS 084715C, AQF level 8, accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC), with an honours research project in the final year.
- Path to registration: UQ says registration as a psychologist in Australia requires a four-year psychology program followed by a professional master’s, doctorate or PhD in psychology.
- Other routes: psychology can also be studied through the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science; with an additional honours year, both meet the undergraduate requirements for registration when followed by a professional master’s or higher.
- Placements: UQ advises checking that you can meet the degree’s placement requirements before applying.
2. Entry scores
- Minimum entry scores: the lowest adjusted scores offered for Semester 1 2026 were ATAR 89 and IB 34.75. Scores are updated each April based on the latest Semester 1 intake, and meeting them does not guarantee admission.
- Intake profile (Semester 1 2026, 385 students): 50.1% were recent school leavers admitted on ATAR alone, 30.1% had higher education study, and 60 (15.6%) were international students. Among recent secondary students offered a place, the median adjusted score was 93.6.
- Prerequisite: Queensland Year 12 General English (Units 3 & 4, C) or equivalent.
3. Students at high schools in China
- Assessed by equivalence: students completing senior schooling overseas must achieve the equivalent of the required Australian Year 12 score. UQ’s program page does not publish specific Gaokao or Chinese high school conversions, so confirm with UQ or an authorised agent before applying.
- How to apply: if your senior schooling is from outside Australia, apply directly to UQ or through an approved UQ agent, using program code 2379.
- If you fall short: UQ’s pathway options can help with the minimum score, prerequisites or English.
4. Students at Canadian high schools
- You are likewise assessed against the equivalent of the required Australian Year 12 score. The program page does not publish BC or Ontario conversions, so check with UQ before applying.
- The prerequisite is Queensland Year 12 English or equivalent.
- International students at Canadian high schools also apply directly to UQ.
5. English requirements
- IELTS: 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in reading, writing, speaking and listening.
- TOEFL iBT (including Paper Edition): 87 overall with listening 19, reading 19, writing 21 and speaking 19.
- PTE Academic: 64 overall with at least 60 in all sub-bands.
- OET is not accepted; there are other ways to meet the requirement, such as previous study.
6. Transfer students
- Transfers are common: 30.1% of the Semester 1 2026 intake had higher education study. UQ says that if you have completed two years of full-time bachelor-level study or higher, your selection rank is based on that study only.
- Semester 2 entry: international students need at least 8 units (4 courses) of advanced standing to start in Semester 2.
7. Timeline for 2027 entry
- Start dates: Semester 1 on 22 February 2027; Semester 2 on 26 July 2027 (international students must meet the advanced standing condition above).
- Deadlines for direct applications to UQ: 30 November of the previous year (30 November 2026) for Semester 1, and 30 June of the year of commencement for Semester 2.
- Through QTAC: international students studying Year 12 or the IB in Australia apply via QTAC and follow its closing dates.
- Visa processing times vary, so apply and accept your offer as early as possible.
8. Fees and scholarships
- International tuition: about AUD 52,528 a year (16 units). UQ says 2027 fees are not yet available, so this is the 2026 rate; fees are reviewed annually and may increase.
- Scholarships: the program page notes more than 100 scholarships you may be eligible for. International students can also use home-country loans and scholarships, and UQ lists options for the USA and Canada.
