How to Apply to Business at UNSW Sydney: The Three-Year Bachelor of Commerce or the Four-Year Bachelor of Commerce (International), with Requirements and Timeline for Chinese and Canadian High School Students and Transfer Students

2026-10-18 · Application guides

UNSW Business School’s main undergraduate degrees are the three-year Bachelor of Commerce and the four-year Bachelor of Commerce (International), which includes a compulsory year of overseas exchange. For 2027 international entry, the BCom lists an international ATAR of 92, a Gaokao of 80%, IB 36, A-Level 15, a BC GPA of 3.7 and Ontario 85; the International degree lists 94, 86%, 38, 16, 3.75 and 86. Business requires IELTS 7.0 (6.0 in each band). First-year international tuition was about AUD 56,500 in 2026. Based on UNSW’s official information, this guide covers both degrees, requirements, offer rounds and a checklist.

At UNSW Sydney, undergraduate business is taught by UNSW Business School on the Kensington campus. The main degrees for school leavers are the Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) and the Bachelor of Commerce (International). Here is what you need to know for 2027 entry, based on UNSW’s official information, for students at high schools in China, students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver students), and transfer students.

1. Choosing between the two degrees

  • Bachelor of Commerce: three years, 24 courses (144 units of credit), UAC code 424000, program code 3502, CRICOS 001919M, with Term 1, 2 and 3 entry. First year is the Commerce Integrated First Year of eight core courses across accounting, economics, data analysis and management; you then take at least one commerce major (usually eight courses), with eight more courses for electives or a second major.
  • Majors (16): Accounting; AI in Business and Society; Behavioural Economics; Business Analytics; Business Economics; Business Sustainability and Social Impact; Cybersecurity Management; Finance; FinTech; Human Resource Management; Information Systems; Innovation, Strategy and Entrepreneurship; International Business; Marketing; Marketing Analytics; Taxation.
  • Work experience: UNSW says every BCom student completes at least one for-credit course built on internships, case competitions or projects, some with partners such as Accenture and Grant Thornton.
  • Bachelor of Commerce (International): four years, UAC code 424050, program code 3558, CRICOS 058736C. Alongside a commerce major you study international relations and cross-cultural units and learn a language; a one-year overseas exchange is compulsory, supported by a AUD 5,000 exchange scholarship.
  • Professional accreditation: an Accounting major with the required courses leads to CPA Australia associate membership and entry to the CAANZ Chartered Accountants Program; UNSW also states the BCom is ACCA-accredited and that Accounting graduates receive 8 of the 16 CIMA exam exemptions.
  • Calendar change: UNSW moves to a new Flex-Semester calendar from 2028, so the duration of your studies may vary depending on when you start before 2028.

2. Entry scores

  • 2027 international entry requirements (UNSW’s 2027 international undergraduate entry table):
    • Bachelor of Commerce: international ATAR 92; Gaokao 80%; IB 36; A-Level 15; BC GPA 3.7; Ontario OSSD 85; SAT 1300.
    • Bachelor of Commerce (International): international ATAR 94; Gaokao 86%; IB 38; A-Level 16; BC GPA 3.75; Ontario OSSD 86; SAT 1330.
  • Domestic reference: the BCom page lists a 2026 lowest selection rank (with adjustments) of 97.0, A-Level 17 and IB 41. These are domestic figures and differ from the international table above; international applicants should use the table.
  • A-Level calculation: at least two A2 subjects, using A*=6, A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1; you can apply with predicted results.
  • AP: assessed on the total of three to four AP subjects with grades of 3 or above, with evidence of completing senior secondary studies and authorisation for UNSW to verify results with the College Board; check the 2027 entry table for the BCom’s AP score.
  • Assumed knowledge: Mathematics at the level of NSW Mathematics Advanced.
  • UNSW notes the table is a guide only and actual requirements may be higher or lower; admission is determined once your application is received.

3. Students at high schools in China

  • The Gaokao is accepted directly. Requirements are based on the percentage average of all attempted subjects, that is, your total as a share of your province’s maximum. UNSW’s Gaokao table shows, for a 750-point province, 70% = 525 and 90% = 675; Shanghai and Hainan use different maximums.
  • Requirements: 80% for the BCom and 86% for the International degree.
  • If you fall short: UNSW College offers pathways. UNSW says completing a 12-month UNSW College Diploma lets you progress directly into second year of the BCom.
  • English: students from China usually need an English test score (see below). If you take UK-board A-Levels in a non-English-speaking country, business programs require a Grade A in an approved essay-based subject (such as English Language, English Literature, or a humanities subject like History or Psychology) for A-Levels to count as English evidence.

4. Students at Canadian high schools

  • British Columbia: based on the BC Senior Secondary School Graduation Diploma, using the average of all Grade 12 subjects except Graduation Transitions and Career-Life, with A=4, B=3, C+=2.5, C=2, C-=1, F=0; the diploma must be awarded. The BCom requires 3.7 and the International degree 3.75.
  • Ontario: the average of the best six Grade 12 university (or university/college) preparation courses including ENG4U: 85 for the BCom and 86 for the International degree.
  • English: senior secondary studies taught and examined in English in an English-speaking country generally meet the requirement (within two years of your start date if you are from a non-English-speaking background).

5. English requirements (Business School undergraduate)

  • IELTS Academic: 7.0 overall with at least 6.0 in each band; One Skill Retake is accepted, the online version is not.
  • TOEFL iBT: 94 overall with at least 25 in writing and 23 in reading, listening and speaking.
  • PTE: 65 overall with at least 54 in each band.
  • Cambridge C1/C2: 185 with at least 169 in each component.

6. Transfer students

  • Entry to the BCom can be based on post-secondary or tertiary qualifications, so students who have studied at university can apply. The course page does not list specific credit transfer rules; credit is assessed with your application, so confirm with UNSW in advance.
  • UNSW says program changes are not available and require a new application, so list multiple preferences in your first application.
  • The BCom admits in Terms 1, 2 and 3, so transfer students can choose a suitable term.

7. Timeline for 2027 entry

  • Applications for all 2027 terms are open. International students apply directly through UNSW; those studying an Australian Year 12 or the IB in Australia apply through UAC.
  • Term 1 undergraduate offer rounds: China and Canada are not International Student Award countries, so offers follow rounds. The four completed-application deadlines were 14 May, 16 July, 20 August and 24 September 2026, with offers on 13 August, 10 September, 15 October and 19 November, and acceptance deadlines of 8 October, 5 November, 10 December and 24 December. As of October 2026 all four deadlines have passed; UNSW says additional offers may be released after the final round if places remain.
  • Terms 2 and 3: undergraduate round dates have not been published; check the admissions information page for updates.

8. Fees and scholarships

  • International tuition (2026 indicative): about AUD 56,500 for the first year of the BCom and AUD 180,500 for the full degree; about AUD 56,500 and AUD 243,500 for the International degree. 2027 fees have not been published yet.
  • Business School scholarships: the course page lists the UNSW Business School International Scholarship, the UNSW Co-op Scholarship (Commerce) and the Women in Business Scholarship, among others; see the UNSW Scholarships website for amounts and criteria.
  • University-wide international scholarships (examples listed by UNSW):
    • International Scientia Coursework Scholarship: full tuition, or AUD 20,000 per year;
    • Australia's Global University Award: AUD 10,000 for one year;
    • UNSW College Award: AUD 10,000 for the first year of your degree after a UNSW College program.
  • Note: the International Student Award and the related IADP 5-point adjustment apply only to citizens of listed countries, which do not include China or Canada.
  • UNSW awards more than AUD 83 million in scholarships each year.
