How to Apply to Business at the University of Technology Sydney: Nine Majors in the Three-Year Bachelor of Business, with Requirements and Timeline for Chinese and Canadian High School Students and Transfer Students
UTS Business School’s Bachelor of Business is a three-year degree: first year builds business foundations, and from second year you choose one of nine majors such as accounting, finance, marketing and business analytics. The lowest selection rank for domestic school leavers in Autumn 2026 was 85; international students can apply with the Gaokao, A-Levels or the IB, but UTS does not publish specific cut-offs. English requires IELTS 6.5 (writing 6.0). First-year international tuition for 2027 is AUD 51,015, and the Autumn deadline for offshore applicants is 30 November. Based on UTS’s official information, this guide covers the course, requirements, deadlines and scholarships.
The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is in central Sydney. Undergraduate business is taught by UTS Business School, and the main degree is the Bachelor of Business. Here is what you need to know for 2027 entry, based on UTS’s official information, for students at high schools in China, students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver students), and transfer students.
1. What the Bachelor of Business covers
- Key facts: three years full time or six years part time, at the City campus. CRICOS 006487A and 113425B; UAC codes 601030 (full time) and 601035 (part time). In 2027 you can start in the Autumn session (February/March) or the Spring session (July).
- Structure: first year builds a business foundation, and from second year you take a business major, with options for a second major, sub-major, major extension or electives. Every UTS undergraduate degree includes Transdisciplinary Electives.
- Nine majors: Accounting; Advertising and Marketing Communications; Business Analytics; Human Resource Management; Economics; Finance; International Business; Management; Marketing.
- Professional recognition: the Accounting major plus 21644 Law for Business Professionals meets the educational requirements of CPA Australia, CAANZ, CIMA, ACCA and IPA; the Human Resource Management major is accredited by the Australian HR Institute (AHRI); and UTS is an affiliated university in the CFA University Affiliation Program.
- Assumed knowledge: Mathematics and any two units of English. UTS offers bridging courses if you do not meet it.
2. Entry reference
- Lowest selection rank (Autumn 2026, lowest rank offered to a domestic recent school leaver): 85 full time and 85.25 part time.
- International students: the course page only says you need an Australian Year 12, an AQF Diploma or an equivalent overseas qualification at the required level. UTS does not publish specific Gaokao, IB or A-Level cut-offs; you can ask through the enquiry form on the course page. UTS notes that eligibility does not guarantee an offer.
3. Students at high schools in China
- The Gaokao is accepted: UTS states that applicants from China can apply with a Gaokao total that meets the entry standard, or with at least one full-time year of bachelor’s study at a recognised university.
- A-Levels, IB and SAT: A-Levels are scored on the best three A2 subjects (A*=6, A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1); the IB requires the full Diploma with a total, including bonus and penalty points, that meets the entry standard; the SAT must be at a competitive standard.
- Gaokao scholarship: new students from China who completed Gao San and the Gaokao and are admitted to an undergraduate degree on their Gaokao results are automatically considered for the UTS Scholarship for Gaokao Students. There are two 75% tuition scholarships in the Autumn session and one 50% scholarship in the Spring session, ranked by Gaokao results, and the Gaokao must be taken no more than one year before you start. For Autumn consideration you must apply by 30 September of the previous year, so the Autumn 2027 window has passed; Spring remains an option.
- UTS also lists the Maple Leaf World School Program (MLWSP) with a total that meets the entry standard.
4. Students at Canadian high schools
- UTS’s Canadian standard: completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma with six University or University/College preparation courses; qualifications from other provinces may also be acceptable.
- BC students: UTS does not list a separate BC requirement, so confirm with UTS before applying.
- English: Canada is on UTS’s list of English-speaking countries, and senior secondary studies comparable with the NSW HSC completed in English meet the English requirement.
5. English requirements
- The Bachelor of Business uses the standard requirement for most UTS undergraduate courses: IELTS (Academic, online or One Skill Retake) 6.5 overall with 6.0 in writing; TOEFL iBT 79 (writing 21), or 4 on the 1–6 scale (writing 4.5); PTE 58 (writing 50); Cambridge C1/C2 176 (writing 169); or a pass in UTS College AE5.
- Test scores must be less than two years old when you apply.
6. Transfer students
- At least one full-time year of bachelor’s study at a recognised university can be used to apply.
- Credit: subjects studied at another university or recognised tertiary institution can count through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) if Business deems them equivalent. Courses at private colleges are not eligible unless the college has an articulation agreement with Business; check the UTS credit recognition search tool.

- International application deadlines (offshore / onshore applicants): Autumn session 30 November / 15 January; Spring session 30 April / 31 May.
