How to Apply to Business at RMIT University: Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Commerce Entry Requirements for Chinese and Canadian High School Students and Transfer Students

2026-10-18 · Application guides

RMIT offers two three-year business degrees in Melbourne: the Bachelor of Business (BP343, 13 majors, February, July and October intakes) and the technology-focused Bachelor of Commerce (BP357). Both cost AU$47,040 a year for international students in 2027. This guide sets out RMIT’s published requirements for Gao San averages and Beijing Gaokao scores, A-levels, the IB, BC and Ontario diplomas, English tests, the Semester 1 2027 deadline, pathways and credit transfer.

RMIT University is in central Melbourne. Its two main undergraduate business degrees are the Bachelor of Business (BP343) and the Bachelor of Commerce (BP357), both taught at the City campus. The College of Business and Law is AACSB accredited. This guide covers 2027 entry for students at high schools in China, students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver) and transfer students, based on RMIT’s website.

1. The two degrees

  • Bachelor of Business (BP343): three years full-time, 24 subjects. You take four foundation subjects in first year, then choose a single major, a double major or no major, and finish with a compulsory capstone. RMIT lists 13 majors (including Business Information Systems, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Global Business, Human Resource Management, Logistics and Supply Chain, Marketing, and Strategy and Innovation) and more than twenty minors. RMIT says the degree has no exams. International students can start in February, July or October (October is not available to advanced-entry students).
  • Bachelor of Commerce (BP357): three years full-time, focused on how technology shapes commerce, with five majors: Cyber Security Law and Governance, Enterprise AI and Business Analytics, International Business, Marketing Technology, and Quantitative Economics and Finance. Intakes are February and July. Entry is higher than for the Bachelor of Business and includes mathematics.
  • Fees: both degrees cost AU$47,040 a year for international students in 2027. RMIT may raise fees each January by up to 7.5% (rounding can make the actual rise slightly higher). The SSAF and materials are extra.

2. Students at high schools in China

RMIT converts qualifications to a Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) average: 65% for the Bachelor of Business and 80% for the Bachelor of Commerce. From the China equivalency table:

  • Gao San: an overall average of 75% (Business) or 85% (Commerce). Gao Er results alone do not give entry to a bachelor degree.
  • Gaokao: RMIT publishes scores for Beijing only: 441 (Business) and 480 (Commerce). Other provinces should contact RMIT International.
  • A-levels (A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1 across three subjects): at least 7 points, e.g. CDD (Business) or 10 points, e.g. CCB (Commerce).
  • IB Diploma: 25 (Business) or 31 (Commerce), including bonus and penalty points.
  • US curriculum: high school diploma with GPA 2.5 plus SAT 1060 or ACT 21 (Business), or GPA 3.5 plus SAT 1160 or ACT 24 (Commerce). RMIT does not publish how AP results are used; AP students should ask RMIT.
  • Prerequisites: none for Business. Commerce requires a study score of at least 20 in VCE General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics or equivalent; RMIT assesses overseas equivalents individually.
  • If your marks are lower: RMIT Foundation Studies accepts a Gao Er average of 60% or Gao San of 50%; the Fast Track pathway needs Gao Er 75% or Gao San 60%.

3. Students at Canadian high schools

  • BC: with the BC Certificate of Graduation (Dogwood), you need 65% for Business and 80% for Commerce. RMIT does not say which BC courses are averaged, so ask before applying.
  • Ontario: the OSSD needs the same 65% or 80%, averaged over the best six Grade 12 academic subjects (C, M and U courses).
  • IB and A-level students in Canada use the scores above.

4. English requirements

  • Both degrees: IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0; TOEFL iBT 79 (Reading 13, Listening 12, Speaking 18, Writing 21); PTE Academic 58 (no band below 50); or C1 Advanced 176 (no component below 169).
  • TOEFL: tests taken on or after 21 January 2026 must be the TOEFL iBT Australia test, and results on the 1–6 scale are not accepted. At-home and online tests are not accepted, and results must be within two years of your start date. Duolingo is not on RMIT’s list.
  • School qualifications: IB English A (Literature or Language and Literature) at 4 (HL or SL), English B HL 4 or SL 5; or a C in an A-level subject taught and examined in English (excluding languages, mathematics and music), used only if you took no English subject.
  • Canadian students: Canada (excluding Quebec) is a recognised English-speaking country. Six years of schooling there (at least two at secondary level), taught and assessed in English, plus the required senior English result can meet the requirement. Ontario needs 50% in ENG4U or ENG4C; RMIT does not publish the BC English score, so confirm it with RMIT.

5. Transfers and credit

  • From another university: students who complete first year at another Australian university may get credit; overseas study is assessed individually, and partner institutions may have set credit arrangements. Tick the credit option when you apply and provide detailed course outlines (volume of learning, content, weekly topics, learning outcomes, assessment and weightings).
  • Note: credit may limit your choice of majors and minors. For Semester 1 2027, credit assessment requests are due by 24 February 2027.
  • RMIT pathways: the Diploma of Commerce guarantees entry to the Bachelor of Business with two semesters of credit; the Diplomas of Business and Accounting give two semesters (one for Business Information Systems); the Associate Degree in Business gives up to four semesters depending on the major. RMIT says the Bachelor of Commerce has no formal pathways and suggests contacting Study@RMIT.

6. Timeline for 2027 entry

  • Semester 1: the bachelor application deadline is 3 March 2027 (all documents must be in), with outcomes and acceptance by 5 March. If an interview is required, complete it by 28 January 2027 and accept and pay by 1 February. Semester 1 classes begin on 1 March 2027.
  • Visa timing: RMIT recommends that students who need a visa apply and accept at least 4–8 weeks before the course starts, so apply early.
  • Semester 2 starts in July; RMIT has not yet published the Semester 2 2027 dates.
  • How to apply: through RMIT’s Application Portal or an authorised agent. Students taking an Australian Year 12 (in Australia or overseas) apply through VTAC.
  • Application fee: AU$100 applies only to countries on RMIT’s list, which does not include China or Canada.

7. Scholarships

  • Pathway Scholarship for China: Chinese citizens (including Hong Kong and Macau) with a bachelor offer from 2026 packaged with ELICOS, Foundation Studies, Fast Track, a vocational programme or an associate degree get 20% off bachelor tuition. No separate application is needed, places are limited and awarded first come, first served, and you must accept and pay the deposit within 14 days of the offer.
  • Medibank International ATAR (Greater China Region) Scholarship: for students in mainland China, Hong Kong or Macau taking an Australian Year 12 (VCE, QCE, SACE, WACE or HSC) who apply through VTAC and receive an unconditional offer. It is worth AU$10,000 (paid in two instalments in first year), with up to ten awards ranked by ATAR. It opens 1 September 2026 and closes 18 December 2026; an expression of interest form is required.
  • Direct entry with the Gaokao, A-levels or IB: RMIT’s China scholarship listing shows no general scholarship for direct-entry students, and there is none specifically for Canadian students. Check RMIT’s scholarship pages for updates.

8. Key points by applicant

Students at high schools in China (Gaokao, A-level, IB, AP):

  • Business: Gao San 75%, Beijing Gaokao 441, A-levels 7 points (CDD) or IB 25; Commerce: Gao San 85%, Beijing Gaokao 480, A-levels 10 points (CCB) or IB 31, plus mathematics
  • Ask RMIT about Gaokao scores for other provinces and about AP
  • IELTS 6.5 (6.0 in each band); the Semester 1 2027 deadline is 3 March, but apply earlier if you need a visa

Students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver):

  • BC Dogwood: 65% for Business, 80% for Commerce
  • Six years of schooling in Canada (two at secondary level) with the required senior English result can meet the English requirement; confirm the BC score with RMIT

Transfer students:

  • Request credit when you apply and include course outlines; for Semester 1 2027, credit requests are due by 24 February
  • Credit may limit major choices; RMIT’s Diplomas of Commerce and Business guarantee entry to the Bachelor of Business
