How to Apply to Undergraduate Business at Emory University’s Goizueta Business School: Enter Emory College or Oxford College, Complete the Prerequisites and Move Into the BBA, with Requirements and Timeline for Chinese, Canadian High School and Transfer Students
Emory’s Goizueta Business School does not admit high school students directly to its BBA. First-year students apply to Emory College or Oxford College, complete the economics, statistics, data analytics and Excel prerequisites and at least 30 credit hours, and enter the BBA in the fall or spring of sophomore year or the fall of junior year. ED I closes November 1 and ED II and Regular Decision January 1, with testing optional; Goizueta Scholars receive guaranteed admission to the business school. The 2026-27 cost of attendance is about $97,948. Based on Emory’s official information, this guide covers entry requirements, areas of study and transfer rules.
At Emory University, undergraduate business is taught by Goizueta Business School, which awards the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA). Unlike many US business schools, Goizueta does not admit high school graduates directly to the BBA: students enter Emory first and then move into the business school. Here is what you need to know for fall 2027 entry, based on Emory’s official information, for students at high schools in China, students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver), and transfer students.
1. How to enter the BBA
- Apply to Emory first: apply through the Office of Undergraduate Admission to Emory College of Arts and Sciences in Atlanta, to Oxford College (a two-year program about 40 miles away), or to both.
- Three entry points: fall or spring of sophomore year, or fall of junior year. Emory College students need 30 credit hours (excluding PE, ECS 101 and Health 100; AP and IB credit counts); Oxford students complete their associate degree first.
- Prerequisites (completed before entering the BBA):
- economics: FIN 201 Business Economics, or ECON 101 (or AP Micro) and ECON 112 (or AP Macro), or IB Economics HL credit;
- statistical competency: AP Statistics credit, an Emory or Oxford statistics course (ECON 220, QTM 100, QTM 110 or an approved equivalent), or passing a statistics exam after an online bootcamp;
- BUS 350 Data and Decision Analytics;
- BUS 290 Tech Tools A: Excel (1 credit).
- Process: file an Intent to Matriculate in the semester before you start: mid-September for spring entry and early February for fall entry. Criteria include academic performance as well as leadership and engagement. Late forms are reviewed as space allows.
- Size: the BBA has about 1,300 sophomores, juniors and seniors. The business school’s class profile lists 528 students, an average GPA of 3.69, an average SAT of 1429 and 23% international students (the page does not say which class).
- Goizueta Scholars: a four-year award from half tuition to full tuition and fees, with guaranteed admission to the business school and priority access to business classes. First-year applicants apply through the Emory University Scholar Programs by 15 November, with decisions by 1 March. The business school page does not say whether international students are eligible, so check with Admission.
2. Areas of study
- Five functional area depths: Accounting, Finance, Information Systems & Operations Management, Marketing, and Organization & Management.
- Interdisciplinary depths: AI for Business, Business Analytics, Business & Society, Consulting, Entrepreneurship, International Business and Real Estate.
- Joint concentrations with Emory College: such as Arts Management, Film and Media Management, Environmental Management and Health Innovation, applied for by 1 March of junior year; they cannot be combined with the business minor.
- Joint degrees: BBA/Master of Professional Accounting (MPA, designed to meet CPA exam requirements) and a highly selective BBA/MSBA in business analytics.
- Goizueta is accredited by AACSB.
3. Application plans and timeline
- ED I (binding): due 1 November, decisions by 15 December.
- ED II (binding): due 1 January, decisions by 15 February.
- Regular Decision: due 1 January, decisions by 1 April.
- Materials: Common App essay and Emory short answers, two academic teacher recommendations, school report, midyear and final transcripts; $75 fee, with waivers available.
4. Testing and English
- Test-optional: the SAT and ACT are not required for fall 2027. Self-reported AP scores of 3 or above are encouraged.
- English: non-native speakers are exempt with SAT Reading and Writing 700+, ACT English 30+, or four years at an English-medium school; otherwise submit TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo. Recommended scores are TOEFL 100 (5.5 on the scale used from 21 January 2026), IELTS 7.5, and Duolingo usually 130+ for the most competitive applicants.
5. Students at high schools in China
- Interview: Emory strongly recommends an InitialView interview for applicants from Mainland China; it is not required and does not replace an English test.
- Curricula: IB, AP and A-level are viewed as competitive programs. Emory publishes no separate guidance on the Gaokao.
- Preparing for the BBA: AP Micro, AP Macro, AP Statistics and IB Economics HL credit can satisfy prerequisites, letting you finish them sooner.
6. Students at Canadian high schools
- The requirements are the same as for other applicants; Emory publishes no Canada- or BC-specific grade requirements.
- Four years at an English-medium school exempts you from English testing.
- Canadian citizens follow the international financial aid policy.
7. Costs and financial aid
- 2026-27 cost (the same for Emory College, Oxford College and the business school): tuition $70,300, fees $1,148, housing $13,222, food $9,184, transportation $1,100, personal $1,620 and books $1,286, about $97,948 in total, excluding the university health insurance. 2027-28 figures are not yet published.
- Need-based aid for international students: very limited; you must apply Regular Decision and submit the CSS Profile and other documents by 5 February. Students who do not apply for and receive aid in their first year cannot receive it later.
8. Transfer students
- Apply to Emory: all transfer students apply through the Emory University Office of Admission, for fall entry only, by 15 March; Oxford College takes no transfers.
- Direct entry to the BBA: the BBA accepts a small number of direct transfers each year. Students entering as sophomores or juniors who have completed the prerequisites may be considered for direct admittance.
- Limited outside business credit: Goizueta prefers that most business coursework be done at Emory, so students with many business classes elsewhere are not good transfer candidates. Junior transfers in the BBA/MPA should expect five or more semesters.
- Emory’s general transfer criteria: one full-time year of college (or the second semester of the first year in progress), at least 28 credit hours completed or in progress (excluding AP and IB), and a college GPA of at least 3.0, with most admitted students above 3.5; up to 62 credit hours transfer.
- Aid: no merit aid for transfers, and no need-based aid for international transfer students.
