2026-10-18 · Application guides

Undergraduate business at Syracuse University is taught at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. You apply to Syracuse through the Common App or Coalition and choose Whitman as your intended program; Whitman has no additional application requirements. Students start business classes in their first year, finish 12 business core courses by the end of sophomore year, and have two years to choose from nine majors. ED I and EA close on 1 November and ED II and RD on 5 January; SAT/ACT is not required. Internal transfers need two of three set maths or economics courses and enter in fall only; Whitman takes up to about 30 external transfers a year. The 2026-27 international cost of attendance on campus is about US$100,526. Based on official information, this guide covers admission, majors, transfer, cost and a checklist.

At Syracuse University, undergraduate business is taught at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management, and the degree is a Bachelor of Science (B.S.). Here is what you need to know for fall 2027 entry, based on Syracuse and Whitman official information, for students at high schools in China, students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver students), and transfer students.

1. Getting into Whitman: choose it when you apply

  • Direct entry: applying to Whitman means applying to Syracuse University. Submit the Common App or Coalition Application, select Syracuse and choose the Whitman School as your intended program.
  • No extra materials: Syracuse’s college-specific requirements page lists no additional requirements for Whitman (unlike architecture, engineering or the arts, which need portfolios or auditions).
  • Size: Whitman’s admissions page lists 2,188 undergraduate students.
  • Dual programs: you can pursue two programs in different schools at once and receive one jointly conferred degree within four years, with partners including the iSchool, Arts and Sciences/Maxwell, Newhouse and Falk; there is also a 3+3 program with the College of Law leading to a B.S. and a J.D. in six years.

2. Curriculum and majors

  • Business from year one: Whitman students begin business classes in their first year and complete 12 business core courses by the end of sophomore year, including business analytics, financial and managerial accounting, business law, finance, marketing, supply chain, management and global business.
  • Nine majors: Accounting, Business Analytics, Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises, Finance, Management, Marketing, Real Estate, Retail Management and Supply Chain. Every student completes at least one major, with two years to explore first; a second business major adds few credits.

3. Deadlines and testing

  • Early Decision I (binding): 1 November, decisions in late December.
  • Early Action (non-binding): 1 November, decisions in early February.
  • Early Decision II and Regular Decision: 5 January; RD decisions are released weekly from mid-March, with a 1 May reply date.
  • Testing: SAT/ACT is not required for applicants entering from fall 2026 to spring 2028, and students outside the US at non-US-curriculum schools do not need it.
  • English: applicants living outside the US whose first language is not English submit TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, PTE or Duolingo. Whitman publishes no separate score; Arts and Sciences lists TOEFL 85 (4.5 on the new scale), IELTS 6.5 and Duolingo 125 as guidance.
  • Interview: optional; virtual interviews, Vericant and InitialView are available.

4. Students at high schools in China

  • Gaokao: Syracuse’s credentials table asks for the Upper Middle School Graduation Certificate and Gaokao results with superior scores if taken, with no advanced credit. No cut-off is published.
  • A-levels: UK-curriculum students submit GCSEs plus four AS levels; A-level passes can earn up to one year of credit.
  • IB and AP: Whitman’s internal transfer page notes that AP Calculus credit replaces the business calculus course and AP Statistics replaces statistics. IB credit rules are not published on these pages; check Syracuse’s credit policy or ask Admissions.
  • Maths: Whitman lists no first-year maths prerequisite, but internal transfers need two of calculus, statistics and economics, so aim to reach calculus in high school.

5. Students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver)

  • BC: submit the Secondary School Diploma and transcript; Ontario students submit the OSSD and transcript; neither earns advanced credit.
  • Quebec: one year of CEGEP is required; a two-year CEGEP program can earn up to one year of credit.
  • No Canadian grade cut-offs are published. Applicants whose first language is not English still need an English score unless they completed three years of high school in the US.

6. Transfer students

  • External transfer: Whitman welcomes up to about 30 external transfer students each year, reviewed by Syracuse Admissions through the Common App. Whitman encourages fall applicants to apply by 1 January for full consideration for admission and aid, after which applications are reviewed as space allows. Syracuse’s transfer pages list a 1 July fall deadline with rolling review from late February; apply early.
  • Credit: business courses need syllabi for evaluation; grades of C- or below do not transfer; your GPA starts fresh; after matriculating at Whitman, at most 12 more credits can be transferred in; Latin honors need at least 60 credits at Syracuse.
  • Internal transfer (current Syracuse students):
    • usually 30 credits (two semesters) at Syracuse, although applicants with fewer credits are considered;
    • two of MAT 221 (statistics), MAT 284 (business calculus) and ECN 101, or equivalents; any college calculus or AP Calculus replaces MAT 284 and AP Statistics replaces MAT 221;
    • at least three more years on campus after admission;
    • review of cumulative GPA, rigor, engagement and an optional professor letter; fall entry only, with applications due by the last day of spring 2027 finals and decisions made over the summer.

7. Cost and scholarships

  • 2026-27 international undergraduate cost, on campus (USD): tuition 69,180; housing and food 20,580; miscellaneous fees 1,869; books 1,847; transportation and travel 1,888; personal 1,294; health insurance 2,868; program and technology fees 1,000; total 100,526. Off campus: 98,248. Summer adds about 7,291.
  • Syracuse notes that cost varies by program; Whitman lists no separate business tuition differential.
  • Scholarships: international undergraduates are eligible for merit scholarships selected by Admissions and announced with the offer.
