Note: Pitt’s Office of Admissions and Financial Aid websites (admissions.pitt.edu and oafa.pitt.edu) returned a block page to automated access, so they were not used. Check those sites directly for English test requirements, international documents, and Gaokao and Canadian curriculum requirements.
1. How first-year students get into Pitt Business
- Choose it on the application: Pitt Business enrolls about 400 first-year students a year. Select one of the business majors on your University of Pittsburgh application.
- What counts: high school grades, class rank, SAT/ACT (optional), curriculum rigor, and involvement and leadership.
- Recommendations: a rigorous college-prep curriculum (honors, AP, IB); four years of high school math, ideally calculus or pre-calculus in senior year; three years of the same foreign language, which fulfils the Pitt Business language requirement; SAT/ACT may be taken more than once, combining the highest reading and math sub-scores.
- Essay and letters: a personal statement or Common App essay is strongly encouraged and may help for scholarships and guaranteed graduate admission; letters of recommendation are advised only for special circumstances.
- Deadlines: rolling admission with no fixed deadline, first come, first served; entry is possible in fall (August), spring (January) or summer (May), though most first-years start in fall.
2. Majors
- Eight majors: Accounting, Business Analytics, Business Information Systems, Finance, Global Management, Human Resources Management, Marketing and Supply Chain Management.
- Accelerated degrees such as BSBA/JD and BSBA/MAcc, and double-degree programs, are also offered.
- International students: about 8% of Pitt Business enrollment.
3. Students at high schools in China
- Apply as a first-year and choose a business major; admission is rolling, so apply early.
- Gaokao and English requirements: not stated on the Pitt Business pages reviewed; see the international pages of Pitt’s Office of Admissions and Financial Aid.
- AP, IB and A-level credit: official results go to the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid, which publishes the credit equivalencies.
4. Students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver)
- Apply as a first-year; Canadian curriculum requirements are not stated on the pages reviewed.
- International students pay out-of-state tuition.
5. Costs and scholarships
- 2026-27 Pittsburgh campus out-of-state tuition: $48,812 for two full-time terms in the School of Business (Arts and Sciences is $43,328).
- Mandatory fees: transportation, student activity, wellness and recreation, and computing fees total $2,152 a year; full-time international undergraduates also pay a $500 International Services Fee in fall and spring.
- Other estimates: housing $10,374, food $6,118, books $596, transportation $1,088, personal $2,398 and more, about $20,654. Adding Pitt’s listed items gives about $72,618 a year for an international student (health insurance not included).
- Scholarships: most Pitt Business students’ scholarships come from university resources and are awarded at admission; the school’s own scholarships are mostly for current students and typically require a 3.00 GPA or higher.
6. Transfer students
- Internal transfer (from another Pitt school or regional campus):
- at least 30 credits at Pitt applicable to the BSBA and a cumulative Pitt GPA of 3.00;
- an average of 3.00 across Introduction to Microeconomic Theory, Introduction to Macroeconomic Theory and Business Calculus or Calculus 1, with only one prerequisite retake counted;
- international students need TOEFL 100 or completion of ENGCMP 0200;
- rolling review, and admission may close once capacity is reached; expect at least four more semesters after admission.
- External transfer: a college GPA of 3.00 or higher with A’s and B’s in calculus, microeconomics and macroeconomics is generally competitive; with fewer than 30 college credits, high school records and SAT scores weigh more. Admission is rolling for fall, spring or summer, and you can expect at least four semesters after admission.
- Credit: only letter-graded courses with a C or better transfer; transfer credit may not exceed 75% of the degree; at least 24 of the 45 business core credits must be earned at Pitt; at least half of each major’s credits must be taken at Pitt; after 90 credits, the rest must be taken on the Pittsburgh campus.
