The University of Queensland’s Bachelor of Computer Science (program code 2559) is a three-year degree at St Lucia, accredited by the Australian Computer Society, with majors in Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Data Science and Programming Theory. Prerequisites are English and Mathematical Methods, and Specialist Mathematics is recommended. For Semester 1 2027, UQ lists 75% of the Gaokao maximum, an A-level aggregate of 10, IB 32 and a BC average of 73.33. International tuition for 2027 is about AUD 60,952 a year, and Semester 1 applications close on 30 November 2026. Based on UQ’s official information, this guide covers entry, English, transfer, fees and a checklist.

The University of Queensland (UQ) is in Brisbane. Its undergraduate computer science degree is the Bachelor of Computer Science, taught at the St Lucia campus. Here is what you need to know for 2027 entry, based on UQ’s official information, for students at high schools in China, students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver students), and transfer students.

1. The degree

  • Duration and codes: three years; program code 2559, QTAC code 733401, CRICOS 096359G. In 2027, Semester 1 starts on 22 February and Semester 2 on 26 July.
  • Four majors: Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Data Science and Programming Theory. Sample courses include Introduction to Software Engineering, Ethical Practice in Computing, Advanced Calculus & Linear Algebra II, Human-Computer Interaction and Analysis of Scientific Data.
  • Accreditation: the degree is accredited by the Australian Computer Society (ACS), and graduates may be eligible for ACS membership.
  • Dual programs: with Mathematics, Engineering (Honours), Science, Business Management, Commerce, Laws (Honours), Economics or Arts, or the Bachelor of Computer Science / Master of Data Science.
  • Honours year: after the bachelor’s, the one-year Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours) (program code 2452) includes a year-long research project. Entry needs a computer science bachelor’s degree or equivalent with a GPA of at least 5.0 on a 7-point scale, awarded within the last 5 years.

2. Prerequisites and entry scores (Australian reference)

  • Prerequisites: Queensland Year 12 English and Mathematical Methods, both Units 3 & 4 at C. UQ recommends Specialist Mathematics for more flexibility in your studies.
  • Entry scores: the lowest adjusted scores offered a place in Semester 1 2026 were ATAR 84 and IB 32. Without adjustments, the lowest was 81.7 and the median 90.65. Scores are updated each April, and meeting them does not guarantee admission.
  • Intake: 232 students started in Semester 1 2026, including 159 international students (68.5%) and 27 (11.6%) with higher education study.

3. Students at high schools in China

  • Gaokao: 75% of the maximum score in your province for Semester 1 2027. The mathematics prerequisite is met by Gaokao mathematics at 60%.
  • A-levels: an aggregate of 10 from your best 3 (or 2) A-levels (A*=6, A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1; AS counts as half). The mathematics prerequisite needs A/AS Level Mathematics, or GCSE/O Level Maths plus Additional Maths.
  • IB: 32 with a completed Diploma. Mathematics can be Analysis and Approaches (SL or HL) or Applications and Interpretation (SL or HL).
  • AP: an aggregate of 13, with at least 3 in each exam; results must come from the College Board, not your school transcript.
  • SAT/ACT: SAT 1170 or ACT 26, plus evidence of a recognised school leaving certificate.
  • How to apply: if your senior schooling is outside Australia, apply directly to UQ or through an approved UQ agent.

4. Students at Canadian high schools

  • British Columbia: an average of 73.33 using English 12 (or English Studies 12) plus your best 3 four-credit Grade 12 courses, with at least 50% in each. The mathematics prerequisite is met by BC mathematics or Calculus 12.
  • Ontario: 73.33 across your best 6 U or U/M courses. The OSSD must come from a school registered with the Ontario Ministry of Education or an authorised international school.
  • Alberta, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan and others: mostly the best 5 Grade 12 courses, also at 73.33.
  • International students at Canadian high schools also apply directly to UQ.

5. English requirements

  • IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each band; TOEFL iBT 87 (listening 19, reading 19, writing 21, speaking 19); PTE Academic 64 with 60 in each sub-band.
  • OET is not accepted, and there are other ways to meet the requirement, such as previous study.

6. Transfer students

  • If you have completed two full-time years of a bachelor’s degree or higher, UQ ranks you only on that university study (see UQ’s undergraduate entry requirements).
  • Credit is assessed when you apply; you can check eligibility on UQ’s credit page first.
  • In Semester 1 2026, 11.6% of new Bachelor of Computer Science students had higher education study.

7. Timeline for 2027 entry

  • Direct applications to UQ: 30 November 2026 for Semester 1 and 31 May 2027 for Semester 2.
  • Through QTAC: international students completing Australian Year 12 or the IB in Australia apply through QTAC (code 733401); check QTAC for its dates.
  • UQ notes that visa processing times vary, so apply and accept early.

8. Fees and scholarships

  • 2027 international tuition: about AUD 60,952 a year (16 units). Actual fees depend on your courses and study load, and fees are reviewed each year.
  • UQ International Excellence Scholarship: a 25% tuition reduction, assessed automatically when you apply and competitive among applicants for the same intake; see the scholarship terms for eligible programs.
  • The program page lists more than 100 possible scholarships; see UQ’s scholarship pages.
