How to Apply to Computer Science at the University of Wollongong: The Three-Year Bachelor of Computer Science and Its Five Majors, with Requirements and Timeline for Chinese (Gaokao, A-Level, IB) and Canadian High School Students and Transfer Students
The University of Wollongong’s Bachelor of Computer Science is a three-year, ACS-accredited degree with majors in Artificial Intelligence and Big Data, Cyber Security, Digital Systems Security, Game and Mobile Development, and Software Engineering, and no prior coding is needed. International applicants need 60% in the Gaokao, or an 80% Senior High Year 3 average, A-level 8 or IB 25, plus IELTS 6.0 with 6.0 in each band. 2027 tuition is AUD 22,416 per session, and results such as 75% in the Gaokao are automatically considered for a 30% tuition reduction. Based on UOW’s official information, this guide covers entry, English, transfer, fees and a checklist.
The University of Wollongong (UOW) is in Wollongong, New South Wales. Its undergraduate computer science degree is the Bachelor of Computer Science. Here is what you need to know for 2027 entry, based on UOW’s official information, for students at high schools in China, students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver students), and transfer students.
1. The degree
- Duration and codes: three years; UOW code 766, CRICOS 012088K; international students study at the Wollongong campus, starting in Autumn or Spring 2027.
- Five majors: Artificial Intelligence and Big Data, Cyber Security, Digital Systems Security, Game and Mobile Development, and Software Engineering; you can also take a broader pathway without a major.
- No coding experience needed: in first year you study alongside Information Technology and Business Information Systems students before choosing a major.
- What you study: programming, web technologies, data management, networks and communications, systems analysis, human-computer interaction and project management; in final year you complete a team capstone project with a client or stakeholder across the software development lifecycle.
- Accreditation: accredited by the Australian Computer Society (ACS).
- Double degrees: with Engineering (Honours), Mathematics, Laws or Science.
2. Entry score and intake (Australian reference)
- The Australian entry score (ATAR-SR) is 75.
- The 2025 intake was 296 students, including 134 international students (45%) and 77 (26%) with higher education study. Fewer than 5 ATAR-based offers were made, so no ATAR profile is published.
3. Students at high schools in China
UOW sorts bachelor’s degrees into three groups; Computer Science and Information Technology is in Group 1:
- Gaokao: 60%.
- Senior High School Graduation (Year 3 average): 80%.
- A-levels: an aggregate of 8 from 3 subjects (out of 18; A*=6, A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1).
- IB Diploma: 25.
- SAT/ACT: SAT 1090 or ACT 22, with evidence of high school completion.
- Maple Leaf schools (BC curriculum): 73% across the best 5 Grade 12 academic courses, plus Maple Leaf’s two core courses.
- Subjects: the course page only advises completing relevant subjects in senior high school and refers to UOW’s entry requirements page; it does not list a required mathematics subject.
- Foundation and diplomas: if you fall short, UOW College offers a foundation program or diploma. A 60% Year 3 average qualifies for the foundation or the three-session diploma, 65% for the two-session diploma, and a 70% Year 2 average for the foundation.
4. Students at Canadian high schools
- UOW’s international entry requirements list only Brazil, Mexico and the USA in the Americas, so UOW does not publish equivalents for Canadian provincial diplomas. BC and other Canadian students should contact UOW’s Future Students team or apply and have their results assessed.
- If you have taken the SAT or ACT, the US standard is SAT 1090 or ACT 22, with evidence of high school completion.
- IB and A-level standards apply worldwide; see above.
5. English requirements
- IELTS Academic: 6.0 overall with 6.0 in reading, writing, listening and speaking.
- Alternatively, pass UOW College’s English for Tertiary Studies (a weighted average of 50, with at least 50 in Academic Reading and Writing). Other tests are listed on UOW’s English requirements page.
6. Transfer and credit
- University results: applicants with associate degree or bachelor’s study are assessed after at least 0.5 full-time equivalent; Group 1 degrees need 50%. AQF diploma graduates need 57% in graded results for Group 1.
- Credit for prior learning: previous study or relevant work can earn credit, shortening your degree and reducing fees.
- From UOW’s overseas campuses: students moving from UOW Dubai, Malaysia or UOW College Hong Kong to an Australian campus can receive a 30% tuition reduction.
7. Timeline for 2027 entry
- Start dates: Autumn session on 1 March 2027; Spring session on 26 July 2027.
- Deadlines: the course page currently shows 2026 dates (international applications closed on 9 December 2025 for Autumn and 5 May 2026 for Spring); 2027 international deadlines are not yet published. UOW recommends applying at least 4 months before the start, with all documents included.
8. Fees and scholarships
- 2027 international tuition: AUD 22,416 per session at Wollongong, with an indicative course total of AUD 134,496. Fees are reviewed each year and confirmed in your offer.
- University Excellence Scholarship (UES): a 30% tuition reduction for the minimum duration of the course, assessed automatically; the Bachelor of Computer Science is not on the exclusion list. To qualify on high school results you need the Group 3 standard, for example 75% in the Gaokao, a 90% Year 3 average, A-level 13 or IB 32. It cannot be combined with other UOW tuition scholarships.
- Other international scholarships that need a separate application are on UOW’s scholarship page.
