2026-10-18 · Application guides

At Stevens Institute of Technology, the BS in Computer Science is offered by the School of Computing and accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET. It has five focus areas (AI and Machine Learning, Application Development, Systems, Security and Theory), starts computer science courses in the first semester and ends with a two-semester senior capstone. Deadlines are 15 November for Early Decision I, 1 December for Early Action, and 5 January for Early Decision II and Regular Decision. The IELTS minimum is 6.0, and the 2026-27 on-campus cost of attendance is USD 91,294. Based on Stevens’ official information, this guide covers the degree, admission, dates, English, transfer, costs and a checklist.

Stevens Institute of Technology, in Hoboken, New Jersey, offers undergraduate computer science through its School of Computing as a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Here is what you need to know, based on Stevens’ website, for students at high schools in China (including A-level, IB and AP students), students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver students), and transfer students.

1. The degree and curriculum

  • Accreditation: the BS in Computer Science is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) of ABET.
  • Five focus areas: AI and Machine Learning, Application Development, Systems, Security, and Theory.
  • Features: Stevens says you begin computer science courses in your first semester; the program ends with a project-oriented, two-semester Senior Design capstone in teams of three to five with industry mentors.
  • Other School of Computing bachelor’s degrees: Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity, plus minors in AI, computer science and cybersecurity.
  • Accelerated master’s: the Accelerated Master’s Program lets enrolled students apply undergraduate credits toward a master’s degree, finishing both in five years. Cooperative education is also available.
  • Course requirements are in the academic catalog, which is hosted on a third-party platform and was not read for this guide; use the “Academic Catalog” link on Stevens’ website.

2. Entering the major

  • The first-year page lists recommended high school coursework by area of study (engineering, computer science and the applied sciences together), but Stevens does not state whether Computer Science admits by major or has a cap, and does not publish the rules for changing majors after enrollment. Confirm with admissions.
  • Recommended coursework (engineering, computer science, applied sciences): four years of English; four years of mathematics (one year each of algebra, geometry, pre-calculus and calculus); three years of lab science (biology, chemistry and physics).
  • Profile: no minimum GPA or test score; Stevens says recent successful applicants had an average GPA of 3.8 (out of 4.0) and SAT scores of 1380 to 1505.

3. Dates and materials

  • Deadlines: Early Decision I 15 November, Early Action 1 December, Early Decision II 5 January and Regular Decision 5 January, with notifications by 15 December, 1 February, 15 February and 1 April. The timeline does not show a year; check before you apply. Tests must be taken a month before the deadline.
  • Early Decision is binding; Stevens says the ED acceptance rate is typically higher than RD or EA, and ED aid packages include a guaranteed Priority Early Decision Scholarship.
  • Materials: the Common Application or Coalition Application, official high school transcript, essay, two recommendations (teacher or counselor preferred) and a USD 75 fee. Interviews are optional, but strongly recommended for international applicants; InitialView interviews are also accepted.
  • Test-optional, stated differently: the first-year page says the policy extends through fall 2029 entry, while the international students page says through fall 2026 first-year applicants. Both are listed here; confirm the fall 2027 policy with admissions.

4. English requirements

  • TOEFL 4 on the new scale (80 on the old), IELTS 6.0 overall, Duolingo 105 or SAT ERW 550; the first-year page also lists PTE Academic 53, which the international page’s first-year list omits.
  • International students who have studied in the US for at least three years may request a waiver after applying.

5. Students at high schools in China

  • Stevens does not publish a Gaokao policy or requirements for Chinese curricula. Transcripts not in English need a certified translation.
  • Stevens accepts AP, IB and Cambridge A-level exam results for credit; see its AP, IB and transfer credit guide.
  • Aid: international students are not eligible for US federal aid; Stevens awards a limited number of merit scholarships to international students, who must submit the CSS Profile (code 2819) to be considered. Financial documentation is strongly recommended with the application.

6. Students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver)

  • Stevens does not publish requirements or cut-offs for Canadian or BC curricula; apply through the international first-year process, with the English requirements in section 4.

7. Transfer students

  • Entry terms: fall and spring. Deadlines: 1 November for spring and 15 June for fall; fall decisions by 27 June, spring decisions on a rolling basis through 15 December.
  • Process: apply through the Common Application (USD 75), then submit a Transfer Credit Evaluation Form, transcripts and syllabi in the student portal; submit the CSS Profile and FAFSA if applying for aid. Transfers are also test-optional.
  • Credit: a C or higher is required; pass/fail courses are not accepted; courses five or more years old are reviewed case by case. Evaluation usually takes two to three weeks after all materials arrive, and the Stevens Transfer Database shows previously approved courses.
  • International transfers: non-US college transcripts need English translations and a credential evaluation from WES, ECE, TEC or another NACES member, plus English syllabi for every course. English: TOEFL 80, IELTS 6.0, Duolingo 105, PTE 53, SAT ERW 550, or three years of study taught solely in English.
  • Whether Computer Science has extra course requirements for transfers is not published.

8. Costs

  • 2026-27: tuition and fees USD 68,230; on-campus cost of attendance USD 91,294 (including housing and meals USD 20,744, books USD 1,200, miscellaneous USD 1,050 and loan fees USD 70). 2027-28 costs have not been published.
