Rowan University is in Glassboro, New Jersey. Its BS in Computer Science is offered by the Department of Computer Science in the College of Science & Mathematics. This guide summarizes what the university’s website says for students at high schools in China (including A-Level, IB and AP students), students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver), and transfer students.

1. Degree and courses (2026-27 catalog)

  • Accreditation: the department says the BS in Computer Science is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET.
  • Total: 120 credits, made up of the Rowan Core, 18 credits of non-program courses, 52–53 credits of required courses, 12 credits of computer science restricted electives and 28–29 credits of free electives.
  • Non-program courses: Computers and Society, a computer science learning community course, Calculus I, one introductory course in biology, chemistry or physics, technical writing, and an authorized lab science.
  • Required courses: Introduction to Object Oriented Programming (or the intensive version), Object Oriented Programming and Data Abstraction, Computer Laboratory Techniques, Data Structures and Algorithms, Computer Organization, Advanced Computing Technologies, Foundations of Computer Science, Calculus II, Linear Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, Probability and Statistical Inference for Computing Systems, Programming Languages, Software Engineering, Operating Systems, Design and Analysis of Algorithms, and the Senior Project.
  • Grades: a C- or better in Calculus I, Discrete Structures, Introduction to Object-Oriented Programming, Object-Oriented Programming and Data Abstraction, Computer Organization, and Data Structures and Algorithms is required for graduation, whether taken at Rowan or transferred.
  • Restricted electives: 12 credits from courses such as data mining, cybersecurity, cloud computing and IoT, blockchain, mobile development, parallel and distributed systems, compilers, human-computer interaction, robotics, cryptography, theory of computing, databases, artificial intelligence, introduction to large language models, machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, graphics and game design, and networking.
  • Optional concentrations: Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity Defense, Data Science, Graphics, Visualization & Gaming Technology, Networking Systems and Software Engineering, each of four or more courses (12 credits or more). The department notes that not every concentration course runs every semester, so students may not be able to complete a concentration formally.
  • Preparation: the catalog recommends several years of high school math and programming; AP credit is accepted for incoming first-years.
  • 4+1 BS/MS: with 75 credits (including those in progress), a 3.0 cumulative GPA, a 3.5 major GPA and two faculty recommendations, students can apply to continue to the MS in Computer Science; deadlines are December 31 for spring and June 30 for fall.
  • Direct entry and changing into the major: the pages we read do not give a separate admission threshold for Computer Science or an internal change-of-major rule. Ask admissions or the department.

2. How first-year applicants are reviewed

  • Testing: Rowan is test-optional and does not penalize applicants who do not submit scores; placement tests may be required after enrolling.
  • High school courses: at least 16 college-preparatory units, including 2 lab science, 3 college-prep math, 2 social studies and 5 more; two years of a foreign language are strongly recommended.
  • Recommendations: the materials list says “Letter(s) of Recommendation”, while another line asks for two letters, one from a teacher or school counselor; follow the checklist in your application portal.
  • Domestic first-year dates: fall 2027 closes March 1, with January 31 as the priority date for merit scholarships.

3. Dates and materials (international)

  • Terms: international students start only in fall or spring, and the application lists one term at a time.
  • Applicants without a U.S. visa: spring 2027 application November 2, documents November 9, confirm by December 4; fall 2027 application June 1, documents June 8, confirm by July 1.
  • Applicants with an eligible visa: spring 2027 December 4 / December 9 / December 30; fall 2027 July 1 / July 8 / August 1.
  • Fees: USD 45 application fee, non-refundable; it is waived if you submit an official NACES credential evaluation. The USD 100 enrollment deposit must be paid before you can request an I-20.
  • Materials: the international undergraduate application, high school transcript (with a certified English translation if needed) and an English test; a credential evaluation is optional, because Rowan does a free course-by-course evaluation.
  • Decisions: released on a rolling basis, usually in 1–4 weeks. International first-years may defer once, by one semester.

4. English requirements

  • Minimums: Duolingo 110; TOEFL 70, or 4 for tests from January 21, 2026; IELTS 6.0; PTE 50; Pearson English Express 63; Cambridge English 170; IB English A grade 5 or English B grade 6.
  • Exemptions: an IB diploma; SAT 900 or ACT 16 or higher; two years at a U.S. high school with a diploma; and several other routes. The list of countries where English is the official language and medium of instruction includes Canada (except Quebec) and the United Kingdom.
  • Low scores: conditional admission through Rowan’s English Language Program is available.

5. Students at high schools in China

  • Transcripts: send the high school transcript with a certified English translation; a credential evaluation is optional.
  • Gaokao: the website does not say how Gaokao scores are used. Ask international admissions.
  • A-Level and IB: the English policy accepts IB English grades and the IB diploma; the pages we read do not cover A-Level credit.
  • English: China is not on the exemption list, so students at regular high schools submit an English score.

6. Students at Canadian high schools (including BC)

  • English: Canada (except Quebec) is on the exemption list; ask international admissions whether this is based on citizenship or schooling in Canada.
  • BC grades: the website does not give BC grade requirements.
  • Status: Rowan treats students entering on a non-immigrant visa (such as F-1) as international; U.S. citizens and permanent residents are domestic.

7. Transfer students

  • Who is a transfer: anyone with 12 or more college credits at the time of application; those with only 12 credits also send the high school transcript and are reviewed on first-year standards plus college work.
  • GPA: most programs require a 2.0 GPA, which does not guarantee admission. Whether Computer Science sets a higher bar is not published.
  • Credits: up to 90 credits transfer; the registrar and department evaluate them after admission.
  • International transfer: USD 45 fee and the deadlines above; international transfer students cannot defer and must reapply.
  • Domestic transfer dates: December 1 for spring 2027 and March 1 for fall 2027.

8. Costs and scholarships

  • 2026-27 full-time out-of-state undergraduate cost of attendance: tuition and fees USD 29,664, books USD 1,330, housing USD 11,897, food USD 5,693, personal USD 3,080 and transportation USD 2,922, for a total of USD 54,630. The page does not list international students separately.
  • International scholarships: all admitted international first-year and transfer students on a valid non-immigrant visa are automatically considered, with awards of USD 1,000 to 19,000 a year and no separate application. The priority deadline is March 1. Awards cover direct costs only (tuition, fees, on-campus housing and meals) and require a 2.5 GPA.
  • Out-of-state scholarship: Brown & Gold gives out-of-state students up to USD 8,500 a year if they apply by January 31; the page does not say whether international students qualify.
