Georgia Southern University’s main campus is in Statesboro, Georgia. Its computer science degree is offered by the Department of Computer Science in the Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering & Computing. This guide summarizes what the university publishes for students at high schools in China (including A-Level, IB and AP students), students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver), and transfer students.

1. Degree and courses

  • Degree: BS in Computer Science, accredited by ABET’s Computing Accreditation Commission, 123 credit hours, taught in person on the Statesboro campus and the Armstrong campus (Savannah). The department also offers a BS in Software Engineering and an MS in Computer Science.
  • Coursework: the program page lists foundations such as programming, databases, algorithms, calculus and ethics, plus specialized topics including graphics and animation, artificial intelligence and data mining.
  • Optional certificates: three electives in a single discipline earn a certificate in one of five areas: Big Data and Analytics, Broadband and Mobile Systems, Game Programming, Network and Computer Security, and Software Engineering.
  • Course list: the catalog could not be read for this guide, so the required courses and credit breakdown are not covered here; see the catalog or ask the department.
  • Accelerated bachelor’s to master’s: qualifying students start graduate courses in their senior year and finish both degrees in five years. Eligibility requirements are not on the pages read for this guide; ask the department.
  • Other: the program page says students can join faculty research in areas such as game programming, robotics and machine learning, possibly paid, and there is an Innovation Living & Learning Community for tech students.

2. Admission

  • Entering the major: the pages read for this guide give no separate admission threshold for computer science; whether students are admitted directly and how current students switch in is not published. Ask the department.
  • University admission (traditional admission, Statesboro and Armstrong campuses): a Required High School Curriculum (RHSC) GPA of 2.5 or higher; SAT Reading and Writing 480 and Math 440, or ACT English or Reading 17 and Math 17, or CLT Verbal Reasoning plus Grammar/Writing 36 and Quantitative Reasoning 13.
  • Rolling admission: Georgia Southern admits spring, summer and fall applicants on a rolling basis starting in September and begins notifying students who will not be admitted in November.
  • Deadlines: fall full term August 1, spring December 1, summer April 1 (no year shown); the page says all required documents must be in at least one week before classes start for a decision. The international pages list no separate deadlines.

3. International first-year application

  • Year of the page: the international requirements page describes requirements for spring, summer and fall 2026; check the university for 2027.
  • Grades: a 2.5 GPA or higher. Transcripts must carry a seal or original signature and can be mailed or emailed by a school official to intladmissions@georgiasouthern.edu; records not in English need a certified English translation.
  • Testing: SAT or ACT scores sent directly by the testing agency; Georgia Southern reviews section scores: SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 480 and Math 440, or ACT English or Reading 17 and Math 17.
  • Application fee: USD 30, non-refundable.

4. English requirements

  • Who needs proof: non-native English speakers; students who attended four years of high school in the U.S. are exempt.
  • Scores: TOEFL iBT 69 or IELTS 6.0; first-year applicants can also use SAT Reading and Writing 480 or ACT English or Reading 17.

5. Students at high schools in China

  • Documents: high school transcripts with English translation, SAT or ACT scores meeting the section minimums, and TOEFL 69 or IELTS 6.0; SAT Reading and Writing 480 or ACT English or Reading 17 also counts as English proof.
  • Gaokao: the international requirements page does not mention the Gaokao; how it is used is not published. Ask International Admissions (intladmissions@georgiasouthern.edu).
  • A-Level, IB, AP: credit rules are not covered on the pages read for this guide and are not published; ask Admissions.

6. Students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver)

  • English: the undergraduate pages only say non-native English speakers need English proof and list no exempt countries; ask International Admissions whether Canadian students need to submit scores.
  • Testing: first-year applicants submit SAT or ACT scores, and section scores are reviewed.
  • BC: grade requirements and GPA conversion for the BC graduation diploma are not published; ask International Admissions.

7. Transfer students

  • Regular admission: at least 30 transferable semester hours (45 quarter hours) and a cumulative college GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Conditional admission: at least 15 transferable hours, a course schedule showing at least 30 by enrollment, and a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Fewer than 30 hours: also meet first-year admission criteria (SAT/ACT, high school GPA and the Required High School Curriculum), with a college GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • International transfer: official transcripts from all colleges, with English translations; a credential evaluation may be required; course descriptions are needed for courses to be evaluated for credit, and many courses taken outside the U.S. may not transfer. Students with fewer than 30 hours also send secondary transcripts. TOEFL or IELTS is required unless ENGL 1101 was completed at a U.S. college.
  • Residency: at least 25% of degree requirements and the last 30 semester hours must be earned at Georgia Southern.
  • Entering computer science: any extra conditions are not published; ask the department.
