Purdue University Fort Wayne (PFW) is in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Computer Science is offered by the Department of Computer Science in the College of Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science (ETCS). This guide summarizes the official requirements for students at high schools in China (including A-Level, IB and AP students), students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver) and transfer students.
1. Degree and courses
- Degrees: the department offers a Computer Science B.S., a Computer Science B.A. and a Computer Science Dual Degree (B.S., M.S.); the dual-degree page says students can earn both degrees in five years. There are also Information Systems programs and a Computer Science minor. The program pages describe the degree as a Purdue degree.
- Accreditation: the B.S. page and the department’s accreditation page say the computer science program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET. The B.A. page does not mention accreditation.
- What you learn: the program page lists problem-solving, programming and project-management skills, with experience in information and cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and big data and cloud computing.
- Labs: the department page lists the Information Analytics and Visualization Center, the CHEN networks lab, the IoT and Intelligent Systems Lab, the Business Intelligence and Information Management Lab, the Surge VR Lab and the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Lab.
- Support: the ETCS Student Success Center handles advising, LEAD peer mentors (junior and senior ETCS students) help first- and second-year students, and the student-run Help Corner offers tutoring.
- Course list: full courses and credits are in the catalog (catalog.pfw.edu), which we could not read, so the course list and total credits are not published on the pages we read (see the catalog).
2. How admission works
- Admission to the major: whether students enter Computer Science directly, and what is required to switch in, is not published. Ask admissions or the ETCS Student Success Center.
- Engineering math requirement: the international requirements page lists an extra math requirement for Civil, Mechanical, Computer and Electrical Engineering (one of SAT Math 570, ACT Math 24, PFW Math Placement 50, AP Calculus AB 4 or BC 3, or college math at MA 15400 or above). Computer Science is not on that list; ask admissions whether it has a math requirement.
3. International application
- First-year requirements: the online application and a USD 30 fee; a cumulative GPA of 2.3 on a 4.0 scale; and proof of English proficiency unless from an exempt country.
- Deadlines (no year shown):
- Fall: May 1 for students outside the U.S., July 15 for students inside the U.S.;
- Spring: November 1 outside the U.S., December 1 inside the U.S.
- English (valid for two years): TOEFL 79 (4.5 for tests after January 21, 2026), IELTS 6.5, Duolingo 110, PTE 58, SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 580, ACT 20 or TOEFL Essentials 8; O, AS or A Level First Language English at C or better; or IB English SL or HL at 5 or higher.
- Exempt countries: the list includes Canada, the United Kingdom, Singapore and Australia, among others; China is not on it.
- Advanced standing: students with the IB Diploma, AS/A Levels from Cambridge, Oxford, Pearson Edexcel, AQA or OCR, or AP courses may receive university credit, which varies by program, grades and intended major; score reports must be sent directly to the Office of International Education.
4. Students at high schools in China
- Gaokao: whether Gaokao scores are used is not published. Ask the Office of International Education.
- English: China is not on the exempt list, so submit TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo or similar scores; O, AS or A Level First Language English at C or better, or IB English SL/HL at 5 or higher, also counts.
- A-Level and AP: credit may be awarded; which courses they replace is not published. Ask the university.
5. Students at Canadian high schools (including BC)
- English: Canada is on the exempt-country list; the page does not say whether Quebec is excluded.
- BC: grade requirements and conversion for the BC curriculum are not published. Ask the Office of International Education.
6. Transfer students
- Requirements: international transfer applicants also pay the USD 30 fee, need a 2.3 cumulative GPA and prove English proficiency; the transfer page says the GPA comes from the college attended.
- Credit from abroad: for institutions outside the U.S. without U.S. regional accreditation, the Office of International Education prepares a credential evaluation; without course descriptions or syllabi, only undistributed credit in the matching discipline is awarded.
- Specific conditions for entering Computer Science are not published. Ask the university.
7. Costs and scholarships
- 2026-27 international undergraduate estimate: tuition and fees USD 25,161, living USD 13,108 (a four-bed on-campus apartment), and books, health insurance and personal costs USD 7,196, for a total I-20 cost of USD 45,465. The page says costs may rise 2–3% a year.
- Tuition rate: in 2026-27, international undergraduates pay USD 838.67 per credit, or USD 12,580.05 per semester full time; course-specific fees such as labs, differentials and materials are extra.
- Academic scholarships: reviewed automatically after admission, with no separate application; students must be full-time undergraduates with at least a 2.5 GPA. Out-of-state first-time students (explicitly including international students) receive per year: USD 3,000 for 3.5+, USD 2,000 for 3.0–3.49 and USD 500 for 2.5–2.99. Transfer students (including international) receive USD 1,500, 1,000 or 750.
- International deadlines: pay the enrollment deposit by the end of the first week of classes and submit all high school and college transcripts by the end of the first semester.
- Renewal: complete 24 resident credit hours each academic year and maintain satisfactory academic progress; awards are split between fall and spring and are not available in summer.
