The University of Southern Indiana (USI) offers its Computer Science BS through the Romain College of Business. The degree is 120 credits (39 general education, 65 major, 16 additional), with 12 hours of directed electives and a senior project that solves a real problem for a business or organization. International admission is rolling; the application fee is USD 40, USI prefers a high school GPA of at least 2.5, and test scores are optional. English minimums are TOEFL 71 (4 on the new scale), IELTS 6 or PTE 50. Students from Chinese schools must have CDGDC or CSSD mail a verification report directly to USI. The 2026-27 international undergraduate estimate is USD 40,240 a year.

The University of Southern Indiana (USI) is in Evansville, Indiana. Its Computer Science BS is offered on campus by the Romain College of Business. This guide summarizes the official requirements for students at high schools in China (including A-Level, IB and AP students), students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver) and transfer students.

1. Degree and courses

  • Credit breakdown (program page): 120 credits, with 39 in general education (Core 39), 65 in the major and 16 additional. The department page says Computer Science students take 48 hours of computer science, electrical engineering and CIS courses and have 12 hours of electives.
  • Directed electives (department page): the 12 hours of directed electives can count toward a CyberSecurity Certificate, a Data Analytics for Business Certificate or other interests; students can also take business electives such as entrepreneurship, management, agribusiness and drones.
  • Hands-on work: students can work in the CyberSecurity Operations Center (SOC), which monitors and responds to threats to the university, and the program ends with a Senior Project that solves a real computing problem for a local, national or international business or organization. The program page cites an average class size of 23 and internship opportunities.
  • Degree map (department PDF, marked “Created Spring 2025 – Subject to Change”, for students starting math at MATH 085):
    • Year 1: ENG 101, MATH 085, CMST 101 or 107 and USI 101, among others; then ENG 201, MATH 111 and CS 258, among others.
    • Year 2: CS 215, CS 358 and MATH 215; then CS 311, ECE 241, BCOM 231 or ENG 317 and a CS directed elective, among others.
    • Year 3: CS 365, CS 379, ECE 347 and CS 321, plus CIS 367, 375, 377 and BCOM 361.
    • Year 4: CS 478, CS 461, CS 483, CS 458 and CS directed electives, among others.
The map lists course numbers only. Course titles and the full degree requirements are in the catalog (bulletin.usi.edu), which we could not read this time; check the catalog for the details.
  • The pages we read do not mention ABET accreditation for Computer Science.

2. Admission

  • Undergraduate Admissions makes the decision. The program page’s steps are: apply online, pay the USD 40 fee and send official transcripts from all high schools and colleges attended.
  • The pages we read do not give a separate admission threshold for Computer Science or conditions for switching into it after enrolling, so this is not published; check with the department or admissions.

3. Deadlines and documents (international applicants)

  • Deadlines: admission is rolling with no application deadline; international admissions encourages applying early to allow time for visa processing. The program page lists start dates of January 11, 2027 (register by January 7) and August 16, 2027 (register by August 11).
  • Application fee: USD 40, non-refundable; international applicants are not eligible for the Common App fee waiver.
  • GPA: USI prefers a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4-point scale for freshmen.
  • Tests: optional; submitted scores are superscored.
  • Transcripts: decisions use official transcripts sent by the school or issuing authority. Before arriving, students must also submit an official document-by-document evaluation from a NACES member; ECE is USI’s preferred provider.
  • Applicants who took time off must explain what they did between high school and enrollment. After admission you submit immigration documents for the I-20.

4. English requirements

  • TOEFL iBT 4 (tests on or after January 21, 2026) or 71 (tests on or before January 20, 2026), IELTS 6, PTE 50, Cambridge English Advanced 169, completion of ELS Level 112, or an O-Level English grade of B or higher.
  • Duolingo, EIKEN and SAT/ACT are considered case by case.
  • The pages we read do not list countries exempt from English testing, so whether Canadian students are exempt is not published; ask international admissions (usi1apply@usi.edu).

5. Students at high schools in China

  • The equivalent credentials page lists the Upper Middle School Graduation Certificate, with an official English translation bearing the school’s original ink seal.
  • Do not upload records in the application portal: arrange for a verification report of your high school transcript from CDGDC or CSSD, mailed directly to USI Admissions.
  • How the Gaokao is used is not published; ask international admissions.
  • A-Level and IB: the credentials page says IB results must be sent by the IB Organization, and A-Level certificates must be certified by the exam body for advanced standing. Which computer science courses they replace is not on the pages we read.

6. Students at Canadian high schools (including BC)

  • The credentials page asks Canadian applicants for completion of senior secondary school with a General or Advanced High School Diploma, such as the Ontario Secondary School Diploma or a Senior Secondary Graduation Diploma.
  • Students transferring from a Canadian college or university can have the registrar send transcripts directly.
  • Grade requirements for BC courses and whether Canadian students are exempt from English testing are not published; ask international admissions.

7. Transfer students

  • Anyone who has attended a college or university in any country applies as a transfer; USI reviews academic success so far and does not publish a minimum GPA.
  • Send official records from all schools attended. US and Canadian institutions send transcripts directly; from elsewhere you can upload copies first, but the institution must later mail official records in English and the original language in a sealed envelope. Transfer applicants from Chinese schools also need a CDGDC or CSSD verification report sent directly.
  • Credit from outside the US is evaluated after admission and needs English course descriptions or syllabi and the institution’s grading information; USI may require a course-by-course evaluation.
  • English: transfers from a US college can meet the requirement with 24 or more transferable credits plus the equivalent of ENG 101 and ENG 102 with a C or higher.
  • Conditions for entering the Computer Science major are not published; ask the department.

8. Costs and scholarships

  • 2026-27 international undergraduate estimate (fall and spring): tuition (30 credits) USD 21,820, first-semester-only fees USD 475, university fees USD 1,830, on-campus housing USD 5,778, meal plan USD 5,872, textbooks USD 810, mandatory health insurance USD 1,655 and personal expenses USD 2,000, totaling USD 40,240. This excludes travel, the USD 40 application fee, the USD 50 housing application fee and the USD 300 housing pre-payment.
  • Rates (2026-27 undergraduate tuition page): USD 727.23 per credit for non-residents. College and program fees include USD 80 for the Romain College of Business and a Computer Science Program Fee of USD 400 at 12 hours or more (USD 200 below 12); international students also pay a USD 200 International Student Sponsored Fee. The international estimate notes that some programs charge additional fees.
  • Out-of-state awards: the Out-of-State Merit Scholarship (high school GPA 3.5; pays the difference between non-resident and Indiana resident tuition plus USD 2,000, currently over USD 12,000 a year) and the Out-of-State Grant (GPA 2.75–3.49; USD 9,000 off tuition) both require living on campus the first year. The page addresses “students residing outside of Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky” and does not say whether international students qualify; ask admissions.
