LASALLE College of the Arts offers three-year BA (Hons) degrees with one August intake a year; students who started from August 2024 receive degrees conferred by the University of the Arts Singapore (UAS). Fine Arts and Animation Art ask for 10–15 works; the design, fashion, interior and product design programmes ask for a PDF of 10 images; Film asks for a one-page synopsis; shortlisted applicants have an online interview. For August 2027 entry, applications open on 1 October 2026; LASALLE says to apply by 1 November 2026 but also that applications stay open until places are filled. International full fees are SGD 30,380 a year and the application fee is SGD 120. This guide covers programmes, portfolios, entry requirements, English, transfer and fees.

LASALLE College of the Arts is a Singapore arts and design institution and one of the two founding members of the University of the Arts Singapore (UAS), with the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). LASALLE says students who began from August 2024 receive degrees conferred by UAS; programmes are still designed and taught by LASALLE at its McNally and Winstedt campuses. Here is what you need to know for August 2027 entry, based on LASALLE’s official information, for students at high schools in China, students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver students), and transfer students.

1. Art and design degrees

  • Length: BA (Hons) programmes are three years full time, with one intake a year, in August.
  • Art and design programmes (as listed in the portfolio requirements):
    • Fine Arts, Animation Art and Film;
    • Design Communication, Design for Social Futures, Interior Design and Product Design;
    • Fashion Design and Textiles, and Fashion Media and Industries.
  • The fee notes also name BA (Hons) Creative Media Arts: Immersive and Interdisciplinary AI Practices, a non-funded programme whose portfolio requirements are not listed on the admissions page; see its programme page.
  • LASALLE also offers BA (Hons) programmes in acting, dance, music, arts management and art histories, plus diplomas, which this guide does not cover.
  • Example (Fine Arts): studio practice runs through all three years; Years 1 and 2 have practical studios, studio electives and contextual studies, and Year 3 is a dissertation (60 credits) and graduation project (60 credits).

2. How to apply and timeline (August 2027 entry)

  • Applications open: 1 October 2026.
  • Deadlines: LASALLE’s pages differ:
    • the key information says apply by 1 November 2026, with outcomes by 23 December 2026 (BA (Hons) Music by 28 February 2027), as a general guide, and further windows may open if places remain;
    • the same page says shortlisted local BA applicants are interviewed from February 2027 with outcomes from April 2027, and the FAQ and how-to-apply page say applications open in October and stay open until places are filled;
    • confirm the international deadline with admissions.
  • Steps for international applicants: apply online and pay the fee, or apply through an appointed overseas representative (including in China and Hong Kong); upload the checklist documents; LASALLE schedules an interview or audition once documents are complete; you get the outcome by email. LASALLE strongly encourages international applicants to use its representatives.
  • Application fee (non-refundable, including GST): SGD 120 for international applicants, SGD 75 for Singapore citizens and PRs. Your application is complete only once the fee and documents are received.
  • The Early Admissions Exercise is for graduating Singapore O-Level, ITE and IP students, not international applicants.

3. Portfolios and interviews

Each programme uses two steps: submit a portfolio (or statement), then an online interview if you meet the requirements, where you discuss your work, inspirations and why you want the programme.

  • Fine Arts: 10–15 original works, including:
    • five works from direct observation (real objects, environments or people, not photographs or copies) in a range of wet and dry media, with photographs of the subjects;
    • three to four 2D works, or three to four 3D works, or two to three media works (photography, animation, video);
    • five to eight sketchbook or visual research journal pages;
    • all from the past two years; each image as a PDF of up to 1 MB with title, description, dimensions, medium and year.
  • Animation Art: 10–15 original works showing observation and drawing (sketches, life drawing, still life, storyboards), a range of 2D rendering (painting, photography, digital imaging) and supporting 3D or multimedia work; recent work; animation is not required; avoid copied and fan art.
  • Design and fashion (Design Communication, Design for Social Futures, Fashion Design and Textiles, Fashion Media and Industries, Interior Design, Product Design): 10 chosen images (2D or 3D visualisations, photographs, ideation, sketches or writing), each labelled academic, professional or personal, with your contribution to team work stated; one PDF of up to 120 MB.
  • Film: a required one-page synopsis of a short story you would like to make for the screen, plus optional treatments, screenplays, short films, music videos, storyboards, photographs or writing.
  • Originality: work must be your own; portfolios with work copied from websites, magazines, films or other artists and designers are rejected.
  • International applicants upload portfolios online and are interviewed online.

4. Entry requirements

  • International qualifications: at least 12 years of formal education with good passes in a recognised national or international examination. If you did not sit one, a certified transcript of your latest school or preliminary exams may be considered case by case.
  • Students at high schools in China: LASALLE does not list Gaokao scores; you are assessed under the international rule above. Specific requirements are not published; ask admissions or an appointed representative.
  • Students at Canadian high schools: LASALLE does not list BC or other provincial requirements; ask admissions.
  • Foundation qualifications: accepted only if you have already studied at an established university for at least one year with results, case by case.
  • English: applicants from countries where English is not the first language, or with qualifications from non-English-medium institutions, can show IELTS Academic 6.0, TOEFL 80 (4 on the new scale), PTE 50 or Duolingo 105. LASALLE does not say separately whether graduates of English-medium Canadian schools need a test; check with LASALLE.

5. Transfer and changing programme

  • LASALLE’s FAQ says there is no direct transfer arrangement with other universities.
  • Changing programme counts as withdrawing; if you have accepted an offer and want to change before starting, you must reapply.
  • The UAS FAQ says applicants who meet the academic, portfolio/audition and interview requirements may be considered for direct entry into Year 2; see our University of the Arts Singapore guide and check with LASALLE admissions.

6. Fees and scholarships

  • BA (Hons) fees for August 2027 entry (per year, SGD; stated as correct as of August 2026 and subject to change):
    • international full fee 30,380; Singapore citizens and PRs 22,000 full fee;
    • funded fees: Singapore citizens (under 40) 9,830, PRs 13,895.
  • Tuition Grant for international students: the page is unclear. The funded fee table shows a dash for international students, while the note below says PRs and international students who take the Tuition Grant apply online and sign a deed to work for a Singapore entity for three years. Ask admissions whether funded places are open to international students.
  • Non-funded programmes: Creative Media Arts: Immersive and Interdisciplinary AI Practices, Design for Social Futures, International Contemporary Dance Practices and Music Business.
  • Other costs: medical insurance SGD 29.98 per semester (SGD 32.70 from 1 July 2027); personal materials such as paints, canvas, tools, design software and cameras.
  • Scholarships: LASALLE scholarships and bursaries cover tuition for one academic year unless stated, are bond-free, and require an offer before you apply. The main page does not say which are open to international students; see each scholarship page.
