How to Apply to Computer Science at NTU Singapore: Mathematics and Physics Requirements for the Four-Year Bachelor of Computing (Hons) in Computer Science and Double Degrees, with Requirements and Timelines for Gaokao, International Curricula, Canadian High School and Transfer Students
At NTU’s College of Computing and Data Science, the Bachelor of Computing (Hons) in Computer Science is a four-year direct honours degree with a compulsory industrial attachment, and double degrees with Business and with Economics. International qualification holders need senior high school Mathematics or Physics (UK CIE A-level Computer Science is also accepted). Gaokao applicants need at least 80% of the maximum score and apply between 15 October 2026 and 19 March 2027; Canadian high school students need at least 90% in each of five grade 12 subjects and apply by 20 January 2027. For AY2026/27, international students with a Tuition Grant pay SGD 21,400 a year. Based on NTU’s official information, this guide covers the degree, subject requirements, entry routes, English, transfer, fees and a checklist.
At Nanyang Technological University (NTU), undergraduate computer science is taught by the College of Computing and Data Science (CCDS), and the degree is the Bachelor of Computing (Hons) in Computer Science. The college was set up in May 2024, building on computing education at NTU since 1988. You apply directly to the degree. Here is what you need to know for August 2027 entry, based on NTU’s official information, for students at high schools in China (Gaokao and international curricula), students at Canadian high schools (including BC and Vancouver students), and transfer students.
1. What the degree covers
- Four-year direct honours: computing fundamentals, algorithms, data systems and software design, through core courses, electives and projects.
- Practice-oriented: NTU notes a mandatory industrial attachment, group innovation and design projects, a final-year capstone and several mini-projects.
- Related degrees: CCDS also offers Computer Engineering, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and Artificial Intelligence and Society. Computer Science can be taken with a second major (Business, Entrepreneurship or Sustainability), and as double degrees:
- Computer Science and Business (specialisation in Business Analytics), with Nanyang Business School: two degrees in four years;
- Computer Science and Economics.
- Curriculum: the CCDS curriculum structure page says structures for matriculated students are now on the student intranet, so the detailed course plan is not public.
2. Subject requirements
- International qualifications (including the Gaokao and Canadian diplomas): Mathematics at senior high school level, or Physics at senior high school level; UK CIE A-level Computer Science is accepted in place of Physics.
- IB: the IB table lists HL Mathematics, or HL Physics/Computer Science.
- Computer Science and Business double degree: NTU’s pages differ, so confirm with admissions:
- the minimum subject requirements table lists senior high Mathematics or Physics (CIE A-level Computer Science accepted), and a good grade in senior high English;
- the double degree page lists senior high Mathematics and a pass in senior high Biology, Chemistry or Physics (for IB, HL Mathematics and HL Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science or Physics).
- The tables currently posted are for 2026 entry; check for 2027 updates. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee admission; selected applicants may be interviewed.
- Olympiads: gold, silver and bronze medallists of the IOI, IMO, IOAI and other international olympiads are considered more favourably for related programmes and may be interviewed.
3. Students at high schools in China
- With Gaokao results: at least 80% of the maximum Gaokao score, plus a valid CSSD verification report from CHSI.
- Senior 3 students awaiting results:
- apply with good Senior 1 and 2 transcripts;
- submit official Gaokao results within 3 days of release, or the application will not be processed;
- eligible applicants are invited to an interview in July, and the decision is based on interview performance.
- No Gaokao: apply with high school graduation results, assessed case by case. Gaokao-curriculum students who do not sit the Gaokao, and those who take AP independently, apply in this category.
- Optional: AST results (at least English, Mathematics and one other subject; Economics as the third subject is only considered for non-Engineering and non-Science programmes), or at least 5 AP exams with 4 or 5, submitted with your Gaokao results or Senior 1 and 2 transcripts.
- Application window: 15 October 2026 to 19 March 2027.
4. International curricula (A-level, IB, US)
- UK A-level: good passes in at least 4 A-levels in the same sitting; international applicants with 3 are generally considered only with outstanding results. Window: 15 October 2026 to 19 March 2027; if you sit A-levels in May/June 2027, you are not considered in this exercise.
- IB Diploma: deadline 19 March 2027; May 2027 candidates can apply on time and submit results within 3 days of release, authorising the IBO to send results to NTU.
- US high school diploma with AP: window 15 October 2026 to 19 March 2027; at least 3 AP exams matching the programme’s subject requirements. NTU says Mathematics Level 2 or AP Calculus BC is compulsory for Engineering and most Science programmes, and AP Physics C for programmes requiring Physics; NTU does not say separately whether this applies to Computer Science, so check with admissions.
- Course exemptions: freshmen with an A in a relevant H2 subject or a 7 in a relevant IB HL subject may be exempted from up to 2 first-year courses; for example, IB HL Computer Science relates to SC1001 Introduction to Computational Thinking and Programming.
5. Students at Canadian high schools
- BC: BC Senior Secondary Graduation Diploma with at least 90% in each of five grade 12 subjects; Ontario needs 90% in each of six grade 12 U or M courses.
- Mathematics: Apprenticeship & Workplace, Foundations for College Mathematics, Geometry 12, Functions 12 and Advanced Functions 12 are generally not sufficient. Engineering, Science and Medicine need grade 12 Calculus & Vectors, Calculus or Pre-Calculus; Computer Science is not listed in either group, so take a calculus course and confirm with admissions. Three or more relevant AP subjects may be considered favourably.
- Application window: 15 October 2026 to 20 January 2027, two months earlier than the Gaokao and IB deadline. Submit final results within 3 days of release.
- English: no test needed if your school teaches in English and your transcript does not show ESL or EAL.
6. English requirements
- IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with 6.5 in writing and speaking; TOEFL 90 (or 4.5 on the new scale) with 25 in writing and speaking (4.5 new); PTE 55 (speaking 55, writing 59); C1 Advanced 170; SAT 1250 (Reading and Writing 60); ACT with Writing 30; AST English 220.
- NTU notes these are generally for Science, Engineering and Computing programmes; highly competitive programmes, double degrees and double majors may require more.
7. Transfer and olympiad exemptions
- If you have completed at least one term at another university (in Singapore or overseas), apply through the standard process; successful applicants receive a first-year place.
- Olympiad exemptions: CCDS grants exemptions to medallists. Gold and silver medallists of national informatics olympiads in China and several other countries can be exempted from SC1001 and SC1008 C and C++ Programming; IOI medallists can be exempted from more. First-year exemptions are only accepted in the first year.
8. Fees and scholarships
- AY2026/27 tuition (per year, SGD, including GST): Computer Science falls under “All programmes”:
- international students with a Tuition Grant: 21,400 (18,050 for ASEAN students);
- without a Tuition Grant: 40,600 for lab-based and 36,350 for non-lab-based programmes; the fee table does not say which applies to Computer Science, so check with NTU;
- the Computer Science and Business double degree is in the Business band: 21,800 with a Tuition Grant, 45,600 without;
- fees are fixed for your cohort; AY2027/28 fees are not yet published.
- Tuition Grant condition: international recipients must work for a Singapore-registered company for three years after graduation.
- Nanyang Global Scholarship: open to all nationalities; covers tuition after the Tuition Grant, plus SGD 6,500 a year for living costs, up to SGD 2,000 a year for on-campus housing, up to SGD 8,000 for overseas programmes and a one-off SGD 2,000 computer allowance; a CGPA of 3.5 (out of 5.0) is required.
