English Teacher

Faith graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in English Literature and holds an English teaching certification from the International TEFL Academy. She has extensive K–12 English teaching experience, working with students across different age groups and supporting a wide range of areas, including English language and literature, reading comprehension, writing, grammar, critical analysis, debate, and English proficiency test preparation. With a strong academic background in English literature and language instruction, Faith specializes in reading comprehension, literary analysis, and writing development. Throughout her K–12 teaching experience, she has taught English, reading, literature, and debate to elementary and middle school students. She adapts her lessons to each student’s age, learning level, and academic needs. Through close reading, targeted grammar instruction, and structured writing practice, she helps students build a strong foundation in English while developing their reading comprehension, critical thinking, and communication skills. Faith also has experience preparing students for English proficiency exams, including TOEFL and TOEFL Junior. Marco holds a Master’s degree in Bioinformatics from the University of British Columbia. Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field that integrates biology, chemistry, and computer science. It involves extensive knowledge of chemistry and biology, including gene function, cell structures, metabolic pathways, chemical reactions, molecular structures, and chemical bonding. As a result, Marco has developed a strong and solid foundation in both biological and chemical sciences. Throughout his academic career, his research has also covered biochemistry and molecular biology, further strengthening his expertise in these fields. Over the years, Marco has focused on tutoring high school students and graduate-level learners of various backgrounds. He completed his undergraduate studies at Simon Fraser University (SFU), where he majored in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, with a strong academic foundation in both mathematics and physics. In scientific research, students must frequently use mathematics to build models and analyze data, while physics is essential for understanding experimental principles and how scientific instruments work, such as optical microscopes, mass spectrometers, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). His outstanding performance in chemistry was recognized multiple times on the President’s and Dean’s Honour Rolls. In English, Gabriel has extensive experience teaching ELL, SAT, SSAT, AP, and university application writing. His teaching emphasizes close reading, discussion, and critical analysis, helping students develop a deep understanding of texts—from literal meaning to broader themes, context, and authorial intent. During high school, he achieved perfect scores of 5 on a wide range of AP exams, including Biology, Chemistry, Calculus AB and BC, Physics 1 and 2, Statistics, English Literature, and Psychology. Edison has also distinguished himself in numerous academic competitions, earning top results in contests such as the Gauss, Pascal, and Fermat Mathematics Competitions, the Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (COMC), the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC 10/12), as well as various science and physics Olympiads. During his time at UBC, Edison served as a teaching assistant for multiple university-level courses, supporting professors in instruction and student learning. His outstanding teaching performance earned him a nomination for a Best Teaching Assistant award in the Faculty of Science. Throughout his career, Taylor has contributed to both adapted and original narrative projects, including story development for internationally recognized franchises such as Doctor Who and Star Trek: Lower Decks, as well as original game worlds like Idle Distiller and the upcoming Skyborne: Phoenix Flight. His work spans narrative design, character development, world-building, dialogue writing, and story structure, giving him a unique ability to help students improve both their writing skills and their understanding of literature. Taylor’s creative achievements have been widely recognized. He received the 2023 Mobile Game Best Narrative award for his storytelling work on a Star Trek: Lower Decks–based game. His short film screenplay Almost Home was also shortlisted for Best Short Screenplay at the Vancouver Independent Film Festival, reflecting his strong ability in narrative structure and expressive writing. In addition to his creative work, Taylor has extensive teaching experience. He has taught at the University of Victoria, Oak Bay Secondary School, and Vancouver Writers’ Exchange as a guest lecturer and writing instructor, focusing on writing structure, literary analysis, and creative expression.
